Jessie J urged women to enjoy their breasts “while you’ve got them” as she reflected on her cancer battle during an award acceptance speech on Thursday.
The Price Tag singer, who underwent a mastectomy after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer last year, announced she was cancer-free in May.
Jessie reflected on her cancer battle as she accepted the Outstanding Achievement in Music honour at the Nordoff and Robbins Silver Clef Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Thursday.
“The last 18 months has been the most incredible, the most magical years of my life, and also the hardest,” Jessie told the audience, reports the Mirror. “I believe that we find the truest parts of ourselves in hard times. So when you’re faced with them, it’s life trying to teach you something.”
The Domino hitmaker, who has a three-year-old son named Sky, then acknowledged the unexpected turns her life has taken and encouraged people to enjoy what they have before it’s too late.
“And to become a mum after not thinking I would, having one t*t just get chopped off out of nowhere. You know what I mean?” she continued, before quipping: “You never know when your t*t is going to be taken from you, so enjoy your t*ts.”
As the crowd laughed and cheered, she added, “That’s a metaphor for life. Enjoy your t*ts while you’ve got them!”
Concluding her speech, the 38-year-old said, “I just love life, I love music, I love telling stories, and it feels good to be celebrating what I love to do. So thank you so much.”
Elsewhere during the fundraising gala, Pink was presented with the O2 Silver Clef Award, Spice Girl Melanie C was honoured with the Global Impact Award and Lily Allen was crowned an Icon.
Other winners included Jade Thirlwall, David Gray, James, Sam Fender and Franz Ferdinand.
