Liam Gallagher predicts England World Cup win: “You gotta make it happen”

Liam Gallagher has predicted that England will win the World Cup, saying they’ve “gotta make it happen”.

England stand one win from their first men’s World Cup final since 1966 after Jude Bellingham’s two-goal display in Miami last night (July 11). England’s win over Erling Haaland and co. means they will go on to face Argentina in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday (July 15), and Liam is among those feeling confident.

“We’re winning this WC,” he declared on X after their win. “I don’t know how don’t care respect to all those players manager you gotta make it happen LG.” He also nodded to ‘Wonderwall’, writing: “Cmon England, cmon Wonderwall.”

It comes after he told fans he was “ready” to play the track live at the final should England reach the last two.

The classic 1995 Oasis track has become the unofficial soundtrack for the England team at the World Cup this year, with Harry Kane and co. coming together at the end of their recent matches to sing it with fans in the crowd, most recently capping off their win against Norway with a singalong.

They’ve also belted it after victories against Croatia, Panama and DR Congo, and recently made headlines after their 3-2 win over Mexico – where Kane sang so loudly with fans that he briefly lost his voice. The Mexico celebrations also saw Jordan Henderson injure his wrist in a freak accident while running to join the team as they sang.

Noel Gallagher quickly threw his support behind the track becoming England’s 2026 World Cup anthem, saying the song “belongs to the people”. He also admitted that he “couldn’t believe” that Jude Bellingham really knew the lyrics.

Liam also reacted to the news that ‘Wonderwall’ had seen a 50 per cent spike in streams on Spotify in the UK thanks to the World Cup, and has now said that he’s prepared to fly out to New York stadium and sing the song live if England makes it to the final.

After one fan reached out and said that it was “mandatory” that the singer “fly out there and sing ‘Wonderwall’ live on the pitch” if Thomas Tuchel’s side make it all the way, Liam gave a reply suggesting that he was already thinking along the same lines: “We’ll see, I’m ready.”

Liam has a reputation for sparking rumours on X/Twitter – previously hinting at an Oasis reunion well before they officially reformed in 2024 and embarked on the massive ‘Live ‘25’ tour, as well as spreading rumours of 2027 tour dates, and claiming that he and Noel were writing a new Oasis album.

Over the past week, the frontman has been sharing other hints about wanting to play ‘Wonderwall’ live at the final – quipping after the England captain lost his voice: “It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon ‘WONDERWALL’” and also jokingly promising to “show Harry how it’s done”.

As for Oasis, the Britpop icons have recently celebrated one year since the ‘Live ‘25’ tour kicked off this past weekend by dropping the first trailer for their “landmark” new Steven Knight-directed documentary.

Don’t Look Back In Anger will be released in cinemas and on IMAX on September 11, before becoming available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu around the world at a later date in 2026.

Liam has also been dropping more hints at a 2027 Oasis tour, telling a fan on social media that Oasis would “without a doubt. 100 per cent” be playing live in Rome in 2027, and also sharing “Bring on 2027”.

The Manchester icons are rumoured to be gearing up for a huge UK and European tour in 2027, which could include Manchester residency and a return to Knebworth.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, “a number of sources” close to the Man City football club recently claimed that there are 12 shows planned for the Etihad Stadium in summer 2027, as well as a long-anticipated return to Knebworth.

There have been rumours of a return to Knebworth circulating since 2025, when a British peer said at the House of Lords that Oasis were playing five, back-to-back anniversary gigs there in 2026. She would later backtrack on the comments.

NME gave Oasis’ first night of the ‘Live ’25’ tour a glowing five-star review, writing: “Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”
