Cordae and Jonquel Jones Talk About Therapy, Pressure & More

In conversation with Billboard and BetterHelp, rapper Cordae and New York Liberty star Jonquel Jones come together for an honest conversation about the mental side of high performance. From navigating pressure and expectations to protecting their peace, the two reflect on the routines, relationships and mindset shifts that help them stay grounded through every win, setback and spotlight. Together, they explore what it takes to build resilience, find balance and show up authentically — on stage, on the court and in everyday life.

Jonquel Jones: Sometimes there’s things that get a little bit bigger than what I can control myself and I think that’s when I go into therapy. I’m a big advocate for it.

Cordae: For me, I started because I got trust issues and because I don’t want to trauma dump on people. I’d tell my dad about my problems and …

Jonquel Jones: What’re you complaining about?

Cordae: You sound like I have rich people problems.

Kyle Denis: Hello, and welcome to Like Minded by BetterHelp, the series where we bring together two talented professionals at the top of their game to have an open and honest conversation about mental health and therapy. I’m Billboard staff writer Kyle Denis, and today we are in Brooklyn, N.Y., with New York Liberty center and MVP and 2024 finals MVP Jonquel Jones, and three-time Grammy nominee Cordae. And we also have licensed professional counselor Sonni Williams.
