The 1975 tribute band booked for Matty Healy’s stag do were sworn to “absolute secrecy”

The 1975 tribute band The 9075 said they were sworn to “absolute secrecy” when they were booked to perform at Matty Healy‘s stag do. See more photos, footage and what went down below.

The frontman’s party was held in Malibu, California, recently, ahead of his marriage to model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel at Castillo del Lago – Madonna‘s former estate in Los Angeles.

Footage later emerged on social media showing the tribute band performing The 1975’s ‘The Sound’, with Healy then joining them on stage. He also appeared for a rendition of ‘Give Yourself A Try’.

The three other members of the ’75 (George Daniel, Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann) were present at the gig, each wearing different Healy-themed costumes. The group’s official photographer Jordan Curtis Hughes was at the stag do, too, as was Healy’s brother and best man Louis.

Now, The 9075 – who are based in Italy, and managed in the UK – have spoken out about the experience they’ll “remember forever”. Their team also confirmed that they’d received an unexpected message from Louis two months ahead of the stag.

He and Bechtel wanted to surprise the groom-to-be with a private performance by his favourite tribute band as part of the pre-wedding celebrations. The invitation came with one condition: “absolute secrecy”.

Nobody outside of The 9075’s immediate team was told about the plans. Friends, family and even those working closely with the group were kept in the dark so as not to ruin the surprise.

The gig took place at the Aviator Nation Dreamland venue in Malibu, where the band waited backstage as guests arrived. The 9075 then played a 45-minute set in front of just 25 guests.

Healy climbed onto the stage to sing alongside frontman Carlo during the show. The 9075 went on to spend several hours with Healy and his guests before being invited to join him at Barney’s Beanery to watch England in the World Cup.

The tribute act subsequently attended his wedding rehearsal party at the legendary Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Matthew Parker, The 9075’s manager, recalled: “Keeping the secret for two months was probably the hardest part. We wanted to tell everyone, but we knew how important the surprise was.

“Walking out onto that stage and seeing Matty’s reaction made every bit of it worthwhile. Then he jumped up and started singing with Carlo. It was one of those moments you know you’ll remember for the rest of your life.”

He continued: “What made the whole week so special wasn’t just the performance. We were welcomed into the celebrations afterwards and treated with incredible kindness. The fact that a group of musicians from Italy ended up spending a week in Hollywood with the very people whose music inspired them still feels surreal.”

Parker went on to say that The 9075 were now “back to reality” as they prepare to head back out on tour in the UK.

“Next week we’re playing Dunfermline and Aberdeen. That’s live music,” he said. “One week you’re performing on the beach in Malibu, the next you’re driving through Scotland. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Captioning a clip of their performance with Healy on Instagram, The 9075 wrote recently: “Malibu, July 14th 2026. A night we won’t forget anytime soon.”

In a separate post shared today (Wednesday July 22), they said: “How has it already been a week? We still haven’t fully recovered.

“Watching Matty Healy sing ‘Give Yourself A Try’ with us is something we’ll probably never be able to process properly. A completely surreal moment, and one we’ll remember forever.”

The 9075 told their fans they would be “putting together a series of videos to tell the full story of how we ended up playing this incredible night”, adding: “Swipe for the full setlist from that night and then for our upcoming tour dates.”

Healy and Bechtel confirmed their engagement at a Charli XCX show in 2024. His mother, Denise Welch, later said she’d “known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged”. She added: “We couldn’t be happier, she is everything that I would want in a daughter-in-law.”

The 1975 have told fans that two new albums are in the works. One of these records will be called ‘DOGS’, a word the band mysteriously flashed on screen at the end of their Glastonbury headline performance last year.

The word was also plastered on drummer George Daniels’ drum kit throughout the set, leading some to think it may be the title of a new album.

“We made two [albums],” Healy said late last year. “It might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums.”

The band’s manager Jamie Oborne previously claimed that The 1975’s new record would be “pretty extraordinary”, saying: “I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one.”

Confirming that the forthcoming project has a “constant discourse about it”, Oborne said: “I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”

The 1975’s fifth and latest studio album, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’, was released in 2022. NME gave it a four-star review, hailing the group for being “back to their very best”.

In other news, Tiny Habits recently teamed up with The 1975’s Matty Healy for a tender single, ‘Anything He Was’.
