Orville Peck Announces Fourth Studio Album, ‘Mule,’ Drops Boot-Scootin’ ‘Too Little, Too Late’ Single

Orville Peck is gearing up to let it spill. The masked, openly gay country singer announced the details of his fourth full-length studio album on Friday (July 24), revealing that Mule is due out on Sept. 18 via Warner Records.

The 13-song collection, tipped as Peck’s most personal album to date, is described in a release as a, “chronological timeline of the year that reshaped his life, tracing the collapse of addiction, the difficult pursuit of sobriety, and the slow, often uncertain process of rebuilding. Told with unflinching honesty, humor, and compassion, Mule finds Peck confronting love, loss, and identity through songs that move fluidly between classic country storytelling, bluegrass, and expansive Americana.”

Peck previewed the LP with a pair of single previews, including the meditative “Prologue (Eulogy of A Man Turned Mule),” a 48-second a cappella hymn featuring Emmylou Harris, Noah Cyrus and Allison Russell and the rollicking “Too Little, Too Late.”

The bouncy, pop country jam co-written by Peck, Steve Rusch (Jessie Murph Koe Wetzel) and Semisonic’s Dan Wilson (Adele, Taylor Swift) is a sweet and sassy kiss-off to a lover who tries to come back for one more go. “You want me hangin ’round but you hate when I complain/ You’re back again, you wanna go/ You, love songs on your radio/ Those records are all burned out anyway/ And ooh/ Ooh they say good things come to those who wait/ Too little, too late,” Peck sings over hand-clap drums and a finger-snapping beat.

Peck — who sang Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” during his Grand Ole Opry debut on Tuesday (July 21) — will kick off his Man Turned Mule 2026 North American tour on Oct. 28 at Channel 24 in Sacramento, Calif., with shows scheduled through a Nov. 22 show at the Paramount in Huntington, N.Y. He will donate $1 from every ticket sold on the tour to The Trevor Project, supporting its mission to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people; Abbie Callahan will open the dates.

Mule is the follow-up to last November’s Appaloosa EP, which dropped after his 16-week Broadway debut as the emcee in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club from March 31 to July 20.
