Chris Brown pleads guilty to affray at London nightclub

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray following an altercation at a London nightclub in 2023.

The 37-year-old singer appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday morning for the administrative hearing relating to his confrontation with music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape club in Mayfair three years ago.

During his court appearance, which lasted less than five minutes, Brown admitted he “used or threatened unlawful violence towards another and their conduct taken together was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness… to fear for their personal safety”.

The Grammy-winning star’s co-defendant, U.S. musician Omololu Akinlolu, who performs under the name Hoody Baby, also pleaded guilty to affray at today’s hearing.

Brown previously pleaded not guilty to assault and grievous bodily harm (GBH) charges, and these charges were later dropped, along with a charge of having an offensive weapon in a public place.

A court had previously heard that Diaw was standing at the nightclub bar when Brown allegedly struck him over the head several times with a tequila bottle.

Prosecutors have claimed the attack, which took place in the early hours of 19 February 2023, was unprovoked.

CCTV footage has allegedly shown Brown chased Diaw through the club before he kicked and punched him as he lay on the floor.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 26 October 2026.
