Noah Kahan has jokingly responded to former U.S. President Barack Obama including one of his songs on his summer playlist.
The former politician released his summer reading list and music playlist on Thursday, revealing that he and his wife Michelle had been listening to Noah’s song Doors.
The Stick Season hitmaker playfully acknowledged the honour during his nightly phone call segment at his latest tour stop in Arlington, Texas on Thursday.
According to Billboard, Noah pretended to talk to Obama on the phone, jokingly saying, “Obama? You finally put me on your summer playlist after 15 f**king years?”
He then acknowledged the song’s sombre tone by asking, “Are you doing OK? It’s not a happy song at all. Is everything all right with Michelle? OK, we f**king miss you so much.”
To celebrate his achievement, one of Noah’s fans posted a compilation of screengrabs of his tweets in which he lamented not making Obama’s summer or end-of-year lists.
In the messages, posted between 2021 and 2023, the singer-songwriter joked, “Why does Obama hate my music,” and “Why is Obama mad at me (sic).”
Noah acknowledged his long-running gag on Thursday by reposting Obama’s playlist on X and adding, “I can finally rest.”
Obama’s list also features songs by Glen Hansard – the Irish musician who died in a motorcycle crash this week – Coldplay, Raye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Beatles, Mumford & Sons, Chaka Khan, David Bowie and more.
The honour comes days after Noah took a stand against U.S. President Trump and his administration for using his song American Cars in one of their videos.
“Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration,” he declared in the comments.
Doors and American Cars are both taken from his 2026 album The Great Divide. He is currently on a global tour in support of the record and is expected to be on the road until December.
