‘¡Viva México!’ Harry Styles Kicks Off His GNP Seguros Stadium Residency: 5 Best Moments

Harry Styles kicked off the Mexico City residency of his celebrated Together, Together Tour at the GNP Seguros Stadium on Friday (July 31), where the British pop superstar captivated a crowd of over 68,000 people (according to Ocesa) with an experimental, fresh, universal and impactful show that reaffirms his privileged place in the contemporary music scene.

The performance marked the first of six nights at the iconic stadium in the Mexican capital. Styles turned 120 minutes into an enthusiastic mass dance party with a setlist that blended major hits like “As It Was,” “Watermelon Sugar” and “Sign of the Times,” with tracks from his latest album, Kiss All The Time. The Disco, Occasionally, resulting in a virtuosic display of everything there is to love about pop music.

The residency in Mexico — which continues on Aug. 1, 4, 7, 8 and 10 — kicked off impressively, with Styles reciprocating the love he received from the Latin American country by thanking fans for their warmth and hospitality.

“I’ve had the privilege of being able to come here over the years in my lifetime,” Styles said. “Thank you so much to the people of Mexico for the warm welcome… They are beautiful, beautiful people!”

Styles’ fondness for Mexico City led him to explore its streets earlier this week, go for a run in the touristy Chapultepec Forest, and even enjoy a stroll accompanied by his girlfriend, actress Zoë Kravitz, according to viral videos shared on social media.

Throughout the show, he spoke a few phrases in Spanish, waved a Mexican flag and even led the audience to sing “Las Mañanitas” for a band member’s birthday, further solidifying his deep connection to Mexico, a country he has visited three times: twice as a solo artist and once with One Direction.

The Together, Together residency in Mexico has generated such anticipation that the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) has estimated the six concerts could bring an economic benefit of between $145 and $171 million to the capital city, according to a statement from the commercial organization.

Mexico City is one of seven cities worldwide chosen by Styles to perform in during 2026 — the second Latin American city included in the tour after São Paulo, Brazil — and the one hosting the largest number of concerts in the region, according to promoter Ocesa. For this leg of the tour, British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith is Styles’ opening act.

Below are five of the best moments from the first night of Harry Styles’ Together, Together residency in Mexico City.

  • “¡Viva México!” Interlude

Harry Styles surprised his Mexican fans by changing the phrase “Put a bell on your bicycle,” which serves as an interlude in the song “Italian Girls” — and is usually a moment for him to interact with the audience before singing “American Girls” — with a sample in Spanish to the rhythm of “¡Viva México! Los amo con todo mi corazón” (“Long live Mexico! I love you with all my heart”). The gesture caused a roar from the 68,000 attendees, who responded with a standing ovation.

  • The Surprise Song of the Night

The singer-songwriter chose “Love of My Life,” from his third album, Harry’s House (2022), as the surprise song for the kickoff of his residency in Mexico, and thousands of hearts were grateful for it. Styles became so emotional during the performance that tears could be seen in his eyes, something that touched many of his fans, making the moment truly unique.

  • Mexican Girls, the Mexican Fan Project

As happens during some artists’ tours, fans come together to create a special moment for their idols, and Styles was bound to have his during his stop in Mexico City. His fans organized to light up the venue with the green, white and red colors of the Mexican flag using the flashlights on their phones during the performance of “American Girls” — a gesture that captivated Styles, who responded with a big smile.

  • “Harry, Brother, You’re Mexican Now!”

Styles reiterated his gratitude for the warm welcome from the local audience, and although he didn’t fully understand the phrase in Spanish that Mexicans shout at musicians as a sign of brotherhood, he still embraced the gesture with affection. A powerful chant of “¡Harry, hermano, ya eres mexicano!” (“Harry, brother, you’re Mexican now!”) shook the stadium before the song “Fine Line,” as the singer explained to the audience that a moment of nostalgia was coming.

“I used to play ‘Fine Line’ because I thought it was the end of something beautiful; now I play it beforehand because it’s a great omen for the future,” he said.

  • A Magical Finale

The first night of Styles’ residency in Mexico came to an end with his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, “As It Was,” featured on his Billboard 200 No. 1 album Harry’s House (2022). During this moment, the musician ran along the catwalk installed on the stadium floor, waving the Mexican flag and igniting the euphoria of his fans. A magical finale to an explosive and elegant show that showcases how this star shines with his own light.
