Joe Jonas says he sought therapy for his low album sales

Joe Jonas has revealed that disappointing sales for his first solo album led him to seek therapy after he began experiencing panic attacks.

The singer reflected on the response to his 2011 record ‘Fastlife’ during a recent episode of the Hey Jonas! podcast, which he hosts with his Jonas Brothers bandmates and siblings Nick and Kevin.

He explained that he had expected the project to emulate the success that the group had enjoyed and treated it as a test of his own self esteem, telling his brothers: “Somewhere in my core, I was like, ‘If I do that, then I matter’.”

‘Fastlife’ went on to peak at Number 15 in the US charts, with lead single ‘See No More’ maxing out at Number 92, which Jonas said he considered a disappointment.

“I started having panic attacks and started having physical pain,” he recalled, and said he saw a doctor, who said he was healthy but recommended he see a therapist.

“I was like, what do you mean a therapist? I don’t need a therapist. Why would I need a therapist?” he said, saying he instead chose to go on long bike rides to be away from his phone.

“I finally spoke to somebody and, after crying through the first question for an hour, [I] realised how great it was. It definitely was so helpful during that season and it has been throughout my life for other major life things that I’ve gone through.”

Jonas returned to solo music last year with ‘Music For People Who Believe In Love’, his first solo album under his own name in 14 years.

Elsewhere, Jonas shared his thoughts last year on Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, after fans speculated that Swift had written some songs about their brief relationship in 2008.

“I’ve heard some of it,” he said. “I think she’s obviously the biggest artist out there, and I think it’s good. Everybody’s got an opinion about it, but from what I’ve heard, there are some catchy melodies.”

Earlier this year, Jonas also made a surprise appearance during Teddy Swims’ Coachella 2026 set, performing the Jonas Brothers’ ‘When You Look Me In The Eyes’.
