The personal song is the latest preview of the singer’s fourth studio album, ‘Old Flames’, which is released on November 6 via Vertigo Records.

“‘Lose Myself’ is me battling between the angel and the devil on my shoulder,” explained La Roux (real name Elly Jackson). “The verses are me struggling to kick my addiction and show up for myself and the choruses are like me wanting to give up on the whole thing and just get lost.”

She concluded: “The song is kind of a fight to try to get me to have enough love and respect for myself to break out of that cycle.”

The propulsive track channels the frenetic drama of mid-90s Michael Jackson ‘Earth Song’ and his duet with sister Janet, ‘Scream’, per a press release.

“I wanted you so much, your love/ Just keeps me holding on/ And now I wanna leave/ Just come and beam me up,” La Roux sings in the bridge, as she reflects on years of weed dependency following an auADHD diagnosis.

She now recognises that she was self-medicating: “Stoned me you’re never gonna leave/ No doubt you never hear me shout/ One two, they’re coming after you/ ‘Cause the demon on the child is the one you wanna lose.”

‘Lose Myself’ follows on from previous singles ‘Babyline’ and ‘Cabin Fever’.

‘Old Flames’ is the long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s ‘Supervision’. The forthcoming album finds Jackson facing the collapse of a 17-year relationship head-on, and tackling themes of forbidden love, loneliness “that comes with addiction, and the struggle to reconcile sexuality and identity when in the public eye”.

Within the lyrics on the LP, the synth-pop star references everything from David Lynch to Donnie Darko while “capturing a sound that is both immersive and nostalgic, while also forward-facing”.

“This record says things how they are: how I am and who I am. It’s been a process of admitting what I got wrong through telling these tales and coming to terms with where I am now,” Jackson explained previously.

“’Old Flames’ is essentially me processing why I’ve behaved the way that I have and saying goodbye to it. It’s a farewell to that way of behaving in love and life. And in music too.”

La Roux is touring across the US, UK, Ireland and Australia this year, supporting Hillary Duff. Visit here for tickets (UK and Ireland).

The tracklist for La Roux’s ‘Old Flames’ is:

‘Old Flames (Intro)’
‘Cabin Fever’
‘Lose Myself’
‘Falling’
‘To Make Our Love’
‘Your Lover’
‘Final Fantasy’
‘Night Vision’
‘I Just Keep Crying’
‘Baby Line’
‘Old Flames’
