Phoebe Bridgers explains why Lost Weekend took ‘forever’ to make

Phoebe Bridgers’ new album took “forever” to make.

The 31-year-old singer has ended her years-long hiatus with the release of Lost Weekend, and Phoebe has now reflected on her time away from the spotlight.

The musician – whose last solo album was 2020’s Punisher – told fans during a question-and-answer session: “I mean, I didn’t love all parts of being away.”

Phoebe explained that her creative urges would come and go in spurts. As a result, the singer has taken “forever” to create her latest album.

She said: “I kept booking studio time and then putting it off … and booking studio time and putting it off, and putting it off … I really wanted to be making something.

“So I just started going in and then taking six months off and then going (back). So this album took forever. Which is great!”

Meanwhile, Phoebe previously revealed that she turned to cleaning in order to survive the COVID-19 lockdown.

The music star found the idea of going outside too “scary” to contemplate at the start of the global health crisis, and so she bought herself a treadmill to stay active and started cleaning in order to pass the time.

Asked what rituals she developed during the lockdown, Phoebe told the BBC in late 2020: “I think the best days were when I could go outside, but there were months where going outside was too scary.

“Even now, it’s the worst [infection rate] there has ever been in the US, and people still aren’t wearing masks – and I live in Los Angeles, which is supposed to be a liberal bubble.

“I bought a treadmill, so I didn’t have to leave the house, and I [started] making my house cosy and making my bed every day, which I’m not super great at.

“This is my only advice: if you live alone, clean your house the way you do when your crush is coming over.”

Phoebe also admitted to suffering from imposter syndrome, in spite of her success as a musician.

The singer said: “I work really hard and I have impostor syndrome.”
