Full trailer, artwork and streaming date released for Pulp’s new ‘What Do You Do For An Encore?’ film

The full trailer, artwork and official streaming release date for Pulp‘s new concert film, What Do You Do For An Encore?, have been released.

Jarvis Cocker and co. announced details of the new film back in June, as well as an accompanying live album that will capture the Sheffield band’s two sold-out shows at The O2 in London last summer.

Directed by Garth Jennings – who helmed the classic music videos for Pulp’s ‘Help The Aged’ and ‘A Little Soul’ – the 90-minute movie features narration from the members, rare behind the scenes footage, and follows the band’s “extraordinary journey from obscurity to cultural touchstone”.

Last month, it was confirmed that global distributor MUBI would be previewing the movie for fans for one night only in UK and Irish cinemas on September 18. From there, it will head to Canadian theatres on September 23 and US cinemas on September 24.

Now, it has been revealed that What Do You Do For An Encore? will stream exclusively on MUBI from September 25.

The artwork has been unveiled for the first time too, showing a close-up shot of the frontman’s torso as he performs on stage, and a full trailer has also been released. The latter features an assortment of colourful footage of the band playing live in 2025, as well as some snippets of them backstage in the ‘90s.

“Good evening. This is a night you’ll remember for the rest of your life,” Cocker says at the beginning, as the intro to ‘Common People’ plays in the background. “How do you get to a moment like this? That’s a long story… The Pulp story”.

“The real live version of Pulp has been far more interesting than anything I could have imagined alone,” he adds in the clip. “Songs contain pockets of energy from your past life, which is released when you perform them again. It’s real time travel.”

As well as making the music videos for two of Pulp’s songs, Jennings has also made visuals for Blur, Radiohead, Beck, R.E.M., Fatboy Slim and Vampire Weekend, as well as directing the 2005 sci-fi film The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, and writing animated movies Sing and Sing 2.

The film is produced by Octavia Peissel (Asteroid City), and edited by Barney Pilling (The Grand Budapest Hotel). Cocker himself is on board as an executive producer alongside Stuart Goldstein, Tom Healy and Rosie Taylor, Harper Simon and Mark Sainsbury.

Expected to capture the spirit of the classic Talking Heads 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, What Do You Do For An Encore? will blend the “brilliantly choreographed stage spectacle” that the band had on their most recent arena tour – celebrating the release of ‘More’, their first album in 24 years – alongside four decades of “colourful, never-seen-before archival material.”

There are also 20 songs featured in the film, including a variety of fan-favourites and deep cuts.

The accompanying ‘Live!’ album is set for release on Rough Trade on August 28. Visit here to pre-order the live album, and here for tickets to the MUBI cinema screenings of What Do You Do For An Encore?.

Since announcing the upcoming film earlier this summer, Pulp have played a huge headline set to close out Mad Cool 2026 – where they broke out ‘Common People’ as England fans celebrated the win against Norway at the World Cup – and also delivered a special orchestral gig to celebrate 50 years of Rough Trade at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

They are set to play their “only major UK headline concert” at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park on August 28, before topping the bill at End Of The Road 2026 next month.

Since releasing ‘More’ last year, Pulp have dropped new track ‘Begging For Change’ for the the star-studded ‘Help(2)’ charity album for War Child, and also digitally released an EP featuring two new songs: ‘Marrying For Love’ and ‘Cold Call On The Hotline’.
