Sean Ono Lennon and longtime girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl announced the birth of their first child, a boy, on Tuesday night (Sept. 1). The news came in an Instagram post from the couple in which they proudly cradled their bundle of joy between them with the caption, “@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius. Thank You!”

In the snap, Ono Lennon is wearing a black shirt, black sailor’s cap and black eyeglasses, as Muhl stands beside him a flowing white top, with Aurelius splitting the difference as he sleeps in Ono Lennon’s arms in a black and white striped onesie.
The newborn is the first grandchild of Yoko Ono and late Beatle John Lennon, who was murdered by shooter Mark David Chapman outside The Dakota apartment building in New York on Dec, 8, 1980 when Ono Lennon was just five years old.
Ono Lennon, 50, shared several other snaps, including on in which he stares intently into the lens while snuggling with Aurelius, as well as one of partner of nearly 20 years Muhl, 39 — an American-born model and Ono Lennon’s bandmate in The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger — having some quiet chest-nap time with the little man next to the caption “Baby Momma!“
Muhl also celebrated the joyous day with a series of arty snaps with her son, including one in which he’s lying on her chest in a Baby Bjorn as she stares up at the camera while holding a small crab in one hand. Her photo roll also included the close-up of Ono Lennon with Aurelius, as well as images of her standing in a lake in a billowing white dress with Aurelius strapped to her chest. The series ends with a serene close-up of the baby’s face as she sleeps peacefully on a blanket.
“We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code,” Muhl wrote in the caption. “The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome. Been playing him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky. Meconium is crazy.”
The couple got well-wishes from a number of musicians and actors, including drummer Zak Starkey — son of John Lennon’s Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr — who wrote “Amazing,” as well as actresses Liv Tyler and Ione Skye, Bijou Phillips and John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s former publicist, Elliot Mintz, who wrote, “there are some moments in life that are perfect. this is one of them.” In addition, punk godmother Patti Smith wrote, “Oh Sean I’m so happy for you both,” while Dominic Fike posted a series of heart emoji.
Earlier this year, Ono Lennon released the third studio album with his longtime collaborator, Primus’ Les Claypool, as the Claypool Lennon Delirium, The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy.
