Noel Gallagher ‘had no idea’ Oasis reunion tour would be so popular

Noel Gallagher ‘had no idea’ Oasis reunion tour would be so popular

Noel Gallagher “had no idea” the Oasis reunion tour would be so popular, according to Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger producer Steven Knight.

The band went back out on the road for the first time in 16 years for their Oasis Live ’25 shows after Noel ended his long-running feud with his bandmate brother Liam Gallagher and the reunion was captured on film for the new documentary, which was produced and written by Peaky Blinders creator Knight.

Knight has now revealed Noel assumed the band would be performing in arenas rather than the much larger stadiums which they went on to sell out all over the world. He told The Times newspaper: “When I first met Noel, he said he had no idea there would be this tidal wave of interest.

“They hadn’t recorded anything for years, they hadn’t been promoting the old albums, but the music had been passed down through generations in their absence.

“When Noel first met the promoters he said: ‘What do you mean, stadiums?’ He thought they’d be playing arenas.”

Knight went on to reveal the brothers were also surprised by the emotional reception they received from fans when they walked back out on stage together for the first time in more than 15 years for the first reunion show in Cardiff, Wales in July 2025.

He added: “The second shock came when Liam and Noel first went out on stage at Cardiff and felt the emotion. People were in tears.”

Knight went on to reveal his thoughts on how the reunion came about – insisting Liam and Noel were keen to end their feud because they had both grown up.

He told the publication: “You start throwing all this c*** away. In your twenties you’re so full of it, angry and easily offended. Then you get older and realise: all that’s left is who you really are.

“And it became apparent, during the tour, that Noel and Liam are similar people. They’re both very funny and they speak the truth.”

He added of family fall-outs: “I’ve got lots of brothers and sisters. There are falling-outs and the healing process goes: ‘You all right? Yeah? Shame we lost the match on Saturday.’

“It was like that. Noel had a great line: ‘With families, it’s different. You don’t have to say anything. Or tell anybody why you’re not saying anything’.”
