Foo Fighters have taken on a rare support slot, opening for AC/DC for “one night only” in Missouri. Watch their set below.
The show took place in St. Louis last night (Tuesday September 8), and came as part of AC/DC’s ‘Power Up’ world tour.
For all of the previous shows – including the 2025 UK and European shows – the rock icons have been supported by The Pretty Reckless, but they were unable to play the gig, causing Dave Grohl and co. to step in, despite currently being out on a stadium tour of their own
They played a setlist of their biggest hits, including ‘My Hero’, ‘The Pretender’ and ‘Times Like These ‘, and, before going into their final song, ‘Everlong’, Grohl told the crowd how happy he was to be there.
“I was so excited to have the honour to open up for AC/DC tonight,” Grohl began. “But now, as excited as I was to have the opportunity, the honour to open up for AC/DC, which has never happened and is a huge fucking bucket list check, even more than that, I was mostly excited to get off this stage and fucking watch AC/DC for the next couple hours.”
“So, as much as I loved hanging with you tonight from here,” he continued, gesturing to the stage, “I can’t fucking wait to hang with y’all tonight from out there.”
Grohl went on to add: “We never say goodbye, because we always come back. I don’t know if we’ll ever open for AC/DC again, although honestly I think it’d be a great fucking tour,” prompting cheers from the crowd.
He also thanked The Pretty Reckless “for calling us to say, ‘Hey, we can’t make this show; do y’all wanna do it?’ So thank you very much to Taylor and the Pretty Reckless, we wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for them,” he added. “Oh my god, send them a fucking cheese basket.”
“So thank y’all so much. I can’t wait until the rock and roll band comes on stage and the rock show actually starts. See you around,” he said, before launching into ‘Everlong’. Watch below.

In a post first announcing the news, Grohl explained how being asked to join Brian Johnson and co. on their tour is a “dream come true” for him as he was inspired by the band after watching their 1980 concert film Let There Be Rock as a child.
The two bands have never toured together before, although Foo Fighters did bring out AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson as a special guest in 2021 when they headlined the VAX LIVE charity gig. That show raised funds to help support vaccination efforts against COVID-19, and saw Johnson join the band for a live rendition of ‘Back In Black’.
Foo Fighters’ own North American headline shows see them joined by Queens Of The Stone Age, and shows continue in Los Angeles on Saturday (August 22), followed by a festival slot at Rock In Rio on September 4. The tour comes in support of their latest album ‘Your Favorite Toy’.
They will now continue their ‘Take Cover’ tour in North Dakota, California, Kentucky, Nevada and more throughout September and October, before kicking off an Australian leg of tour dates at the end of the year. Visit here for tickets.
The dates follow on from their recent European run that included two nights at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool. NME was at one of those gigs and gave the band a glowing four-star review which read: “The laid-back rock club vibe is what makes this work. Foos don’t have the bells, whistles, pyro, or blockbuster special effects of other standard stadium acts, just tunes and banter.”
