Zara Larsson has responded to The White House using her hit Midnight Sun as the soundtrack for their latest anti-immigration social media video.
The Trump administration posted a TikTok video on Wednesday night featuring a montage showing United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arresting and deporting immigrants, using her 2025 breakthrough song as the soundtrack.
The Lush Life singer wasted no time in responding to the clip in her own TikTok video, which she began by making the “loser” gesture with her fingers.
“It really makes me sad to see that, genuinely, my heart’s heavy,” she told her followers. “‘Cause I wish I could speak to whoever made this video. I wish I could talk to you. And I wish I could help you remember that you and I, we aren’t that different. At all. And we’re not that different from the people in this video, either. The biggest difference between us is that we were dealt a different hand in life.”
The 28-year-old noted that she was lucky to be born in Sweden and have access to education and healthcare, while other people are “not that lucky”.
“They want to have a better life for their families, or for themselves and their children. And I just don’t understand how it could be the worst thing in the world to be an undocumented immigrant,” she continued. “And a vast majority of these people who are undocumented are regular people with jobs, and they’re just trying to have a better future.”
Criticising the “dehumanising” video, Zara said, “I don’t understand why you would do this video… And this just creates this massive divide between people. I just don’t get it. Like, it’s just so f**king uncool… You guys are such f**king losers. Like, it’s crazy.”
The White House’s video remains on their TikTok page.
Many other artists have previously opposed the use of their music in pro-Trump social media posts, including the likes of Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo.
