Emily Eavis responds to calls for Oasis at Glastonbury 2027

Emily Eavis has responded to calls for Oasis to headline Glastonbury Festival 2027.

The Manchester band are heading back on the road next year for their huge Live ’27 tour, which includes stadium shows in Glasgow and Manchester in May and June.

Their 11-night homecoming residency at the Etihad Stadium – home to Liam and Noel Gallagher‘s beloved Manchester City FC – wraps up on the Saturday of next year’s Glasto (June 26). This means that Oasis are free to top the bill on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm on the Sunday (June 27). Fans soon clocked the suspicious gap in the schedule, leading to whispers of a potential return to Glasto.

However, some have shut this down due to logistical reasons. Oasis are not playing three gigs in a row at any point on their upcoming Live ’27 run, nor did they on last year’s reunion tour.

Transporting their crew and equipment from Manchester to Somerset in less than 24 hours would also prove challenging.

Now, Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis has responded to a comment about whether Liam and Noel could rock up on the farm next June. “Please say you’ve got Oasis,” a follower wrote, alongside the announcement of ticket details for Glasto ’27.

Eavis, who was tagged in the comment, replied: “Sorry Jimmy, not this time!”

No acts have yet been confirmed for next year’s Glastonbury. The first line-up poster is usually shared in the spring, though some past headliners have been given their own announcements earlier – such as Elton John in 2023.

Eavis revealed last month that all three 2027 headliners had been booked, while shutting down rumours of Madonna topping the bill next summer.

“No, it’s definitely not Madonna, I’ll tell you that,” she said. “But we have got three headliners and we’re very excited about it – it’s all coming together really well.

“Pretty much 95 per cent of the stories [about Glastonbury] you read are not true, and rumours are pretty much always wrong. But the good news is that we’ve got our headliners and we’re cracking on, and we just can’t wait to get back.”

Early bookies’ favourites for the Pyramid Stage next summer included Sam Fender, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Little Simz. Other rumoured names for topping the bill are Harry Styles, Radiohead, Fontaines D.C., Muse and The Rolling Stones.

Styles’ new tour dates for 2027 put him further in the frame, while Fontaines D.C. are currently free on the Friday (June 25) ahead of their two massive concerts at Slane Castle that weekend.

Robbie Williams’ announcement of two outdoor shows immediately after the festival has also sparked rumours that he could appear at Worthy Farm, potentially in the Sunday Legends Slot. The singer had previously said he would “slaughter it” if offered that booking.

Elsewhere, Duran Duran said they would only play Glasto if they were allowed to headline, while Brian May has ruled out Queen appearing, as Michael Eavis “likes killing badgers”.

As for Oasis, Liam Gallagher suggested last year that the band would never headline Glastonbury again. “I like the other stages and the tents but the main stage is like playing to a load of jamboree teachers,” he wrote. The singer then doubled down in another tweet just last month, saying: “It’s not HAPPENING. So all you Croc wearing flag waving shit cunts can calm the fuck down.”

In 2024, Noel claimed that Glastonbury had gone “a bit woke” and “a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling”. He continued: “I don’t like it in music, little fucking idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. Fuck the Tories man,’ and all that.”

However, Noel has been known to attend the festival, and was seen watching LCD Soundsystem there with Dave Grohl in 2024. He last played the Pyramid Stage in 2022 as a soloist. Liam performed at Glasto in 2019 and 2017. Oasis denied that they would be appearing at Glastonbury 2025, shortly after announcing their Live ’25 tour.

But some fans argue that Oasis have unfinished business with Worthy Farm. Their headline slot on the Pyramid Stage in 2004 drew a mixed to negative response, and is seen as a low point of the band’s career.

LG said in 2019 that he “hated” Oasis’ ’04 slot, describing it as “horrible”. He explained: “I didn’t enjoy that because that was when I’d first started using in-ears [monitors to hear the music], and it’s spun me out for 15 years.” However, the singer did say at the time that he’d “always enjoyed Glastonbury”.

Oasis’ Live ’27 tour will also see them return to Knebworth for four nights in September, following stops in Munich, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Boston and Las Vegas. They’ll host a pair of concerts at Slane Castle in Ireland, too.

The news of the group’s live return followed the release of new documentary film Don’t Look Back In Anger, which arrived in cinemas on September 9. In a four-and-a-half-star review, NME said the movie was “masterfully done, with moments of irreverence and intense passion burning throughout”.

NME spoke to Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight about his work on the big-screen project. “The question I wanted to answer with this film was: why, after 16 years with no promotion and no marketing, is this music bigger than it’s ever been?” he said.

The directors of the film, Will Southern and Dylan Lovelace, also talked to NME. “It’s shot for spectacle and to put you right in the middle of the crowd,” Southern told us. “If people can watch it on the biggest screen possible, as loud as the cinema is prepared to play it, then they’re going to have a good time!”
