Holly Humberstone has canceled the remainder of her European tour after a member of her touring party suffered what she described as a “serious, life-threatening medical emergency.”
The British singer-songwriter shared the news on social media, explaining that the incident happened Sunday morning (Sept. 20) as her tour bus arrived in Cologne, Germany. Humberstone said the individual was taken to a hospital and is now stable.
“A member of our touring party suffered a serious, life threatening medical emergency yesterday morning on the bus as we arrived into Cologne,” she wrote. “We responded and got them to a hospital quickly, and thankfully they are now stable and doing ok in the hospital.”
Humberstone also thanked the medical team caring for the unidentified member of her crew, adding that continuing the tour without them “wouldn’t feel right.”
“We are a family, and it wouldn’t feel right to continue without them whilst they take the time to recover,” she wrote. “And so, I have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the EU tour and reschedule it to a time when we can all come back, together, and deliver the show we promised.”
The affected dates were due to include stops in Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Hamburg and Berlin.
Humberstone acknowledged the disruption for fans who had already traveled or made plans around the shows, saying she did not make the decision lightly.
“I know this tour has been tough on the fans, and I’m deeply sorry to anyone who has travelled and taken time out of their lives to come and see the show only to be faced with a cancellation,” she wrote.
“Cancelling shows is not something I take lightly at all, and I promise that if the situation was any different, we would be on stage for you,” she continued. “In these circumstances, the show wouldn’t be half as good with such a core member missing, and it just doesn’t feel right to continue.”
The “Cruel World” singer said she plans to return next year to make up the dates.
“Thank you for everything and for your understanding,” she added. “I love you guys, I’m sorry, and I promise we’ll be back next year to do this properly.”
The cancellation comes as Humberstone has been touring in support of her latest album, Cruel World.
