“I knew there were still stories calling to me, especially from the creatures who helped shape that world,” musician says of follow-up to Tori and the Muses
Tori Amos has announced she will be releasing her second children’s book.
A Sorta Fairytale serves as a prequel to her children’s book debut and New York Times Bestseller Tori and the Muses. The upcoming book explores a “new adventure” centered around saving the town of Rose Dover and features previous characters Tori, the Muses, and Tori’s animal friends in the Emerald Forest who appeared in the first book. The story traverses the “magic of working together” and seeks to inspire readers to embrace creativity and collaboration.
The book features illustrations from Demelsa Haughton, who also illustrated Tori and the Muses and is known for her retelling of six Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales, among her many other works.
“After I finished Tori and the Muses, I knew there were still stories calling to me, especially from the creatures who helped shape that world,” Amos said in a statement. “Stepping deeper into Rose Dover and into the Emerald Forest, I discovered all the stories it held. And working with Demelsa Haughton again, watching her bring this world to life through her exquisite illustrations, was endlessly inspiring.”
Per a synopsis of the book, Tori seeks to save Rose Dover from the evil spell of a character called Mr. Bad Man. She enlists her Friends of the Emerald Forest as well as the Muses. Through magic and teamwork, they build a special pink piano that breaks the spell.
In addition to her children’s book work, Amos is an accomplished author of other tomes, including 2020’s Resistance: A Songwriter’s Story of Hope, Change, and Courage, and 2005’s Piece by Piece. Her 18th studio album, In Times of Dragons, arrived in May.
