The 1975’s Matty Healy has given fans an exciting update on the band’s long-awaited new album, revealing that it is “almost done”.
The update came in a video that was played on big screens at an event for Sunday For Sammy, the North East charity of which Healy is a patron. Tribute act The 9075 were playing at the event at Salt Market Social in North Shields yesterday (September 25), and Healy thanked those in attendance in the video, before giving the tantalising news.
Healy initially joked about progress on the record, saying: “I’m never going to finish it.”
However, he then quickly changed tack, adding: “It’s almost done.”

The 9075 have formed a close relationship with the charity, and made headlines in July when they were secretly flown to Malibu to perform at Healy’s stag do, where the frontman ultimately joined them on stage himself.
Healy’s latest comments mark one of the clearest recent updates on The 1975’s first full-length release since 2022’s ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’.
Last December, Healy revealed that The 1975 had actually made two albums. During a Q&A at Gateshead College, a fan asked him about the significance of the word ‘DOGS’, which mysteriously flashed across the stage at the end of their Glastonbury 2025 headline set and had also appeared on drummer George Daniel’s kit.
Healy confirmed that it was the name of an album before adding: “We made two. It might be one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums.”
The band’s manager and Dirty Hit boss Jamie Oborne had already confirmed ahead of last year’s Glastonbury that they were working on a “pretty extraordinary” new record.
“I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one,” he said at the time.
“It’s already a pretty extraordinary record,” Oborne continued, adding that he had a “constant discourse about it” with the band.
“I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”
Speculation surrounding a new era first accelerated when The 1975 changed their logo and social media imagery in early 2025, before making their live return for their debut Glastonbury headline performance.
The band have largely remained out of the spotlight since then. In February, Healy revealed he had been “living in the studio and not sleeping much” while working on new music.
He also performed an acoustic set at Sunday For Sammy earlier this year, where he covered The La’s and James Taylor and brought out Lewis Capaldi.
The 1975’s last LP, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’, was awarded four stars by NME, with the review declaring the band “back to their very best”, adding: “Combining the band’s slightly sidelined knack for writing huge, immediately memorable pop bangers with the more complex, neurotic lyrical voice of The 1975’s more recent releases, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ feels like the right next step after pushing experimental excess to its logical conclusion, and is comparatively lean with just eleven tracks to its name.”
