Born in East London on January 28th, 1927, Ronnie Scott became one of the defining figures in British jazz. As a master tenor saxophonist, bandleader, and passionate advocate for musicians, he played a central role in the development of the UK jazz scene before joining forces with fellow saxophonist Pete King in 1959 to establish the legendary club. What began as a small basement venue in Soho rapidly transformed into a world-famous institution. Over the decades, the stage has welcomed icons ranging from Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and Nina Simone to modern powerhouses like Robert Glasper, Ezra Collective, and Jacob Collier.
The centenary festivities kick off with an exclusive, intimate party at the Soho club for members on Wednesday, January 27th, 2027. Limited to just 100 guests, the evening will feature a live band alongside surprise guest appearances.
The momentum builds the following evening on January 28th, 2027, with the main event: Ronnie Scott’s 100th Birthday: A Celebration In Concert at the Barbican, presented in association with Serious. Led by Artistic Director James Pearson and the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, this special one-off concert brings together a cross-generational lineup including Art Themen, John Etheridge, Orphy Robinson, Camilla George, Daniel Casimir, Mark Kavuma, and Joe Webb. Joining them on stage are special guest stars Mica Paris, Curtis Stigers, and Omar Puente, with additional artists to be announced.
Combining electrifying live performances with rare historic film and archive footage, the concert honors both Ronnie Scott’s personal artistry and the extraordinary community that has grown around his venue for over six decades.
