Sometimes a once-in-a-lifetime gig comes around a second time. That’s the case for the Foo Fighters, who will get another chance to share the stage with their hard rock heroes AC/DC on Friday night (Oct. 2) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. after the “Back in Black” band was forced to cancel their gig at the venue on Sunday (Sept. 25) due to a nor’easter storm.

So, what was originally deemed a “one night only” is now a double-down. “Let there be rock,” the Foos wrote on Instagram. “See you October 2nd with @acdc!!!” The comments from fans said it all: “Lightning strikes twice! Twice in a lifetime, know,” wrote one, with another adding, “This makes up for rescheduling BIG TIME,” and a third saying, “Wow from a cancelled show to once and a lifetime time show.”
Tickets from the originally scheduled show on AC/DC’s PWR Up tour will be valid for the rescheduled gig, which comes less than a month after the Foos stepped up to open for AC/DC in St. Louis on Sept. 8. It was a rare opening slot for the Foos, who filled in for the tour’s booked opener, The Pretty Reckless; the Taylor Momsen band was unable to play the gig because the singer was in Seattle on Sept. 9 to join the surviving members of Soundgarden during the halftime show at the Seattle Seahawks’ home opener.
Before the first AC/DC opening slot, Foos singer Dave Grohl called the show at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis “literally a dream come true.” In a lengthy Instagram post, Grohl wrote, “I remember it like it was yesterday…. It was AC/DC’s 1980 concert film Let There Be Rock that truly introduced me to the raw, primal power of rock and roll performance for the first time,” he wrote. “Sure, I had Beatles records, I had Kiss posters, I had an old, broken acoustic guitar with a few strings that I would pretend to play in front of the hallway closet mirror when no one was home, but it wasn’t until that fateful night at the tender age of eleven years old that my best friend, Larry Hinkle and I went downtown to the Uptown theater in Washington D.C. and actually witnessed it on full display.”
Grohl said from that night on he was obsessed and 45 years after that day, he could not wait to share the stage with the Aussie legends. “And now, for the first time since that fateful night in 1980, my band Foo Fighters will share a stage with the gentlemen who are single handedly responsible for my determination to give every audience everything I have, every night,” Grohl thundered. “This is literally a dream come true. So…..if you want blood….you’ve got it. Let there be f–king rock, St Louis.”
The Pretty Reckless are booked to play the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento on Thursday (Oct. 1) and Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. on Saturday (Oct. 3), which will also feature sets from the Foos, Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, Public Enemy and many more.
The AC/DC show was one of many major gigs that were scuttled due to last weekend’s storm, a roster that included the Global Citizen Festival, CBGB Festival and All Things Go NY festivals in New York, all three days of the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Md. and two Ed Sheeran concerts in Foxborough, Mass.
