Sean Ono Lennon has rejected a claim suggesting he inherited more than his half-brother, Julian Lennon, from the late John Lennon’s estate.
On Monday, the musician – the second son of the Beatles icon and Yoko Ono – posted a photo on X of himself and Julian, 63, gazing at a lake in a scenic location.
“Had a great bday with my brother…@JulianLennon,” he wrote in the caption.
A short time later, a follower asserted that Sean had been the main beneficiary of John’s estate when the singer-songwriter was murdered at the age of 40 in 1980.
“One guy inherited most of the estate, the other largely cut out and forced to engaged in decades-long litigation in pursuit of a comparatively small share of it,” they alleged. “Unbearably painful and enraging for the one, surely pretty darn awkward for the other. That they remain friends (and largely always were) is testimony to the redemptive power of being a chill dude with broad implications for the wider world.”
However, Sean was quick to publicly respond to the claims.
“Julian and I inherited the same amount from our dad. Our trusts were equal. Although his was slightly more, but negligibly so,” the 51-year-old replied.
Julian, the son of the Imagine hitmaker and his first wife Cynthia Lennon, has not yet commented on the post.
In 1996, the musician-photographer settled a 16-year legal battle against Yoko in which he reportedly received $26 million (£20 million) from John’s estate.
