Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus are back as Junior Boys for a new album, The Gore, that merges themes of grief and nostalgia with the influence of horror cinema. Out February 12, 2027, via City Slang, the album is led by the lysergic techno single “Underneath the Moon” and a video, directed by the artist John Smith, that will delight fans of TV static. Check it out below.
Greenspan said in a press release, “This song is deeply inspired by the 2022 horror film Skinamarink. I used old tape loop techniques using an old Tascam tape machine to achieve a number of the effects in the film, to work as a sort of homage to the ephemeral quality of analog recording tech.” He added that The Gore—written over several years, in the wake of the deaths of his father and a close friend—is a sort of twin to its predecessor, Waiting Game: “a polarized articulation of the same thing, something about Silence, Serenity, Terror and Time, both circular and unending.”
While there are no tour dates on the docket just yet, Junior Boys have lined up album playbacks early next year in Brooklyn, Seattle, and Toronto. Those will begin with screenings of the experimental film Wavelength and end with a Q&A with Greenspan.
