Latto loves to prove her critics wrong.
The 27-year-old rap star admits to drawing inspiration from her critics, explaining that she enjoys having “a point to prove”.
Asked whether “spite” fuels her creativity, Latto said on Hot Ones: “I think that’s a lot of it for me.
“I don’t know what it is in me that’s just like, ‘You think you’re gonna make me stop or slow down by saying what you saying?’
“On my Momma, that turns me up. Now I’ve got a point to prove.”
Latto explained that she enjoys having a “vendetta”.
The chart-topping rapper – who is currently supporting Cardi B on tour in North America – said: “I love when people hate on me ‘cause it really gives me a vendetta. Like, ‘Oh, now I have to prove you wrong.’”
Latto previously acknowledged that authenticity is key to her music.
The rap star explained that she tries to build a connection with her fans.
She told Okayplayer: “I think people are eager to feel a connection to the music. They also want to feel like the message in the music is authentic to the artist too.
“I’ve been tapping into a vulnerable place and it’s been so freeing. I know it will be received well. People relate to real. Even if they can’t relate to the story itself, they feel it.”
Latto also feels like her personal growth is reflected in her new music.
She said: “I’m way more intentional. I feel like I’m growing as a woman in my personal life aside from anything else, and it’s bled into my career. Maybe it’s an age thing?”
Latto now has more control over her own career, and she’s feeling more confident than ever.
Asked how her confidence has evolved during the course of her career, Latto replied: “A lot of decisions were made for me early on, since I was so young, but I’ve grown to be more secure in myself and my own decisions.
“Everything you see from Latto now is a true reflection of me. I’m leading and have been leading the ship for a while now, so I think the confidence just grew over time.”
