How Harry Styles Took Over New York City

He embraced the Big Apple — and it embraced him back

New York, baby, always jacked up. Let’s face it, NYC is just a different place when Harry Styles is in town. This is a notoriously tough city to impress — so many superstars pass through here without making a mark. But as soon as Harry moved in for his Together, Together tour, for an unprecedented run of sold-out shows in Madison Square Garden — 30 nights in all, starting in late August — he completely took over the town.

Excitement has been in the air since his residency began, turning the whole city into Harry’s House. He invaded the Garden while the historic venue was already having a big summer, after the Knicks scored their NBA championship. (And as Harry quipped, “They also do weddings!”) His shows have been joyful celebrations, with a whole new set list. (“Kiwi”!!!) But that’s just the beginning. Here’s to the love affair between Harry and New York City — when this guy’s here, everything’s coming up roses.

  • Harry Walks the City Streets

Part of the city’s obsession with Harry Styles has been his determination to walk to the gig nearly every day, taking the stroll from Brooklyn into midtown Manhattan, right to the stage door. This is a highly unusual flex for a superstar, to say the least. But what a power move — no handlers, no entourage, just the artist taking to the city streets he loves, like a real New Yorker, without anyone hassling him. He’s got his shades, his trusty “Techno Is My Boyfriend” baseball hat, and the street cool of the urban flaneur. Meteorological fact: this is the reason why NYC weather has been so freakishly sunny, as Harry Summer turns into Slutty Pumpkin Autumn. It turns out Mother Nature is a KissCo girlie. —Rob Sheffield

  • All the Pedicabs Blast Harry’s Music

Pedicabs bike blasting music and shining with lights have become a quintessential New York City sight, especially around Times Square/Madison Square Garden. During the singer’s MSG run, one of the most delightful parts of walking through the area became hearing all the bikers blaring out everyone’s favorite Harry songs in unison, making his setlist a wonderful soundtrack for any Harry fans making their way through the Big Apple. —Julyssa Lopez

Down on East 2nd Street sits a storefront with a red fabric-trimmed awning reading, “It’s all waiting there for you.” Inside the Together, Together pop-up shop, there’s more waiting for fans than just Harry Styles merch. Thousands of fans have waited in line for hours to snap photos at the New York-themed shop. It features a recreation of a subway car, a classic hot dog cart, and a massive I Heart NY installation for which the heart is replaced with a massive disco ball. The highlight of the shop, however, is the magazine stand overflowing with Styles-themed outlets, like The Times Together, The New New Yorker, and Taste Back. —Larisha Paul

Boutique hotel the Moxy was one of the places that hosted Harry-themed happy hours to get fans pumped up ahead of select Together, Together shows. Fans who flocked to the Moxy’s rooftop bar Magic Hour could choose from two curated cocktails to get their evening going: the luxe espresso martini Late Night Talking, and the jalepeño-bubbly concoction the Styles Spritz. They even served mirrorball-inspired strawberry donuts, nodding to the title of Styles’ album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. —Jaeden Pinder

Styles has never shied away from gender-fluid fashion and a great dress every now and then, making him a beloved figure in the drag community. That explains why so many drag queens have embraced him — and the MSG run inspired tons of drag shows and drag performances around the city. One of the most popular included “Drag, Occasionally,” hosted by NYC drag king Maxxx Pleasure at Red Eye NYC, right by Madison Square Garden. —J.L.

  • Harry Rides the NYC Ferry

Styles famously walked to his night shift at the Garden. But there were a couple of times when he didn’t always choose to get there on foot and hopped on the NYC Ferry. The NYC Ferry took the opportunity to celebrate when one of the most famous celebrities used the waterway. “You’ve heard of Elf on a Shelf… How about Harry on a Ferry,” reads a post from the NYC Ferry’s official Instagram. “Thank you @harrystyles for using public transportation and making #NYCFerry part of your commute to Madison Square Garden.” —Maya Georgi

  • Jersey City Gets Some Love in “Coming Up Roses”

It wasn’t only New York that got all of the Harry love. The sixth borough across the Hudson, New Jersey, also played a special role in this era. Styles filmed the “Coming Up Roses” music video at the Ukrainian National Home in Jersey City’s the Heights neighborhood. Eagle-eyed Hudson County locals spotted the location, and the star even gave a “special thanks” to the non-profit organization in the video’s YouTube description. Here’s to hoping he enjoyed a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich. —M.G.

  • The Knicks and Harry Share MSG

Styles has taken over the Garden for 30 nights, but he knows it’s still the home of NBA champions, the Knicks. On night nine, the “King of New York” Jalen Brunson came out to see what the British musician was all about. “He’s just trying to have a quiet night out… not a chance. It’s like Mickey Mouse going to Disneyland,” Styles said as he saluted  the MVP. A few weeks later, the musician returned the favor and went to the Garden on his day off to attend the Knicks first game of the season. Styles wasn’t quite the team’s lucky charm (Lebron James’ 76ers won the game) but he did get to see the team unveil their championship banner. Then, on his last night, it was Brunson himself who presented Styles with his MSG banner. —M.G.

Styles’ loved ones also came out to support him throughout the residency. Zoë Kravitz, the musician’s fiancée, came out for various shows, and on  Night 13, she even brought along her father, Lenny Kravitz, who danced in the audience throughout the night. At one point, Styles even flashed the duo a peace sign to shout them out. Later in the residency, Styles’ mom chose to spend her birthday at her son’s show — and even got a “Happy Birthday” sing-along from a sold-out MSG audience, and his father was seen in the audience on Night 28. —M.G.

  • Harry Adds Some Style to NYC Street Fashion

When Styles is spotted out and about in New York, he’s typically wearing a casual combo of jeans and a hoodie, sometimes paired with his well-worn “Techno Is My Boyfriend” hat. The singer blends in with the masses walking the streets of the city during his commute to MSG, but once he’s inside and fans are flocking to their seats, the anticipation is high for what he’ll be wearing when the curtains are pulled back. Most nights, he opted for some variation of a suit (the jacket always comes off within a few songs). Some nights, he turned up the heat. “It’s a Saturday night,” Styles said during a show in September, “and I’ve got on a pair of slutty little shorts, let’s go!” —L.P.

Love was in the air when couple Marivel and Frankie got engaged at the 19th MSG show as Styles performed “Coming Up Roses.” The crowd went wild when Frankie’s charming proposal was shown on the Jumbotron and the soon-to-be newlyweds were later featured in Styles’ poignant music video for the same song. “Looks like you’re my forever date,” Marivel wrote on her Instagram. Together, Together, forever and ever. —J.P.

Halfway through his MSG residency, Styles was spotted out in the city being followed by a man with a camera. Some New Yorkers had just one question … was the man filming Harry documentarian John Wilson? Indeed it was; days later, it was revealed the New York-centric filmmaker was tapped to create a documentary about Styles’ MSG residency. Given Wilson’s previous work, we expect the documentary will be a delight, intersecting Wilson’s offbeat approach with one of the world’s biggest pop artists. —J.P.

  • Harry Hooks Fans Up With Free Tickets

Maybe manifestation is real? One lucky fan named Alexis went viral on TikTok after Styles hooked her up with free tickets during a somewhat chance encounter. On TikTok, Alexis revealed she was on a trip to the Big Apple with her family when she spotted Harry on the NYC Ferry. When he asked if she was coming to the show and told him she was unable to get tickets, he gave her two freebies without much hesitation. The cherry on top? She had to tell him her email address featured the words “iluvharrystyles” for the ticket transfer. —J.P.

  • Manhattan Borough President Declares Harry Styles Appreciation Day

With all that Styles has given New York, it’s the city’s turn to give back to him. Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal officially declared Oct. 30, 2026, Harry Styles Appreciation Day. “His music, individuality, and connection with audiences have left a lasting impression on fans and the city alike,” Hoylman-Sigal wrote in his proclamation. “As his residency concludes, we recognize his contributions to music and the unforgettable memories created on one of New York City’s most iconic stages.” —L.P.

  • Harry Plays “Ever Since New York”

On October 28, Styles threw in an emotional shock for the final pre-Harryween show. When he strummed the opening notes of “Ever Since New York,” the entire building had convulsions. He hadn’t done that classic in almost exactly four years — the last time he sang it was also at the Garden, on the final night of his 2022 residency. Both nights, he busted out the song as a surprise, with no warning or explanation, because he is an evil, evil, evil boy. (That was also the night when MSG surprised him by hanging a banner to commemorate his 15 sold-out shows.) “Ever Since New York” carries so much history for him — it was the opening song at Harry’s first NYC show, at Radio City, just his fifth solo show ever. A poignant moment? Tell us something we don’t already know. —R.S.

  • Harry Delights New York With “Sweet Creature”

Harry was three months into his global Together, Together tour, but he completely revamped the show for New York. Opening Night had one shocker after another — but the biggest surprise came when he busted out “Sweet Creature,” the beloved fan fave from his solo debut, for the first time since 2018. (The fan next to me, a total stranger, grabbed my arm and said, “This isn’t happening!”) It was a nightly acoustic showcase for guitarist Mitch Rowland and singers Laura Bibbs and Lorren Chiodo — so intimate it felt like a love song to the city, with the refrain, “You bring me home.” Halfway through the run, they changed it to “From the Dining Table,” bringing Harry’s whole story full circle. —R.S.

  • Harry Champions Local NYC Musicians

On each night of the residency, Styles was joined by his backing band but those five members weren’t the only musicians that helped him perform each night. Throughout his stay, the megastar tapped 15 musicians from Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians, the largest local union of professional musicians in the world. Dan Point, the union’s president, told City and State that Styles “came in and we learned that he himself, and obviously his team who helped make it happen, was adamant that he wanted people who were from New York City.” Talk about giving back to the Big Apple. —M.G.
