Like many of us, Stevie Nicks was overjoyed about the midterm election results this week, when the Democratic Party won total control of Congress.
Nicks posted a “little prayer” on Instagram, which she originally wrote on Oct. 18. “I really believed that what has happened was going to happen,” she said. “It just had to. Good almost wins…I didn’t have time to get it out before the election, so here it is. That’s the dream.”
The poem opens with Nicks describing the beauty of the early mornings, including her dog, Lily, her lamps, and her drapes. She feels anticipation for the coming day, until she remembers, “We are at war/People are starving/Right here/In the United States/We are surrounded/In violence In chaos/In hate.” But she ends on an optimistic note: “But the light creates/A circle of angels/Around this place … That’s the dream.”
Nicks is just one of the many artists to speak out in the lead-up — and, for Dems, victorious aftermath — of the midterms. Tinashe encouraged her fans to vote (and clapped back at Republican voters), while Bruce Springsteen backed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who became the first Muslim senator in U.S. history.
In August, Nicks performed “Landslide” with Olivia Rodrigo at the pop star’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival. She also contributed the song to Practical Magic 2 (just as she had in the original, when she re-recorded “Crystal” for the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman-starring fantasy film). In January 2027, she’ll appear in Frank Marshall’s Fleetwood Mac: The Chain. It’s the first fully-authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Rumours.
