Sabrina Carpenter has written “literally” 900 outros to her hit single Nonsense.
When she performs the 2022 song live, the Espresso hitmaker always write new lyrics for the outro, usually containing sexual innuendo and double entendres.
Her suggestive outros gained more attention this year thanks to her cheeky lyrics at Coachella festival, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and as a support act on Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.
In an interview with the Guardian, the Please Please Please singer confirmed she has a healthy bank of outros at her disposal.
“I’ve written literally 900 outros,” she revealed. “I’ve said a lot of provocative things that I don’t do or feel – I need rhymes, I’m running low!”
She jokingly added, “Nonsense happened like a storm in my life, so I didn’t really have time to consider one too many d**k jokes.”
However, the 25-year-old singer admitted she was unsure “how far to push things” on the family-friendly Eras Tour so some of her outros were “super PG-rated”.
In a separate conversation for Paper magazine, Sabrina explained that she and her sister came up with the idea to ad-lib the outro.
“The Nonsense outros were a happy accident,” she shared. “I didn’t sit around a table of marketing people who said, ‘You know what you should do every night?’ It was literally my sister and I that were like ‘I have all these extra lines from the song. Let’s shout out the city!’ Then it took on a life of its own.”
