Riley Keogh has told how she believes her mum, Lisa Marie Presley “died of a broken heart.”
The actress has opened up about how her late mother coped after the death of her son, Benjamin Keogh.
Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, aged 27. Lisa Marie died in 2023 of natural causes, aged 53, with a post mortem concluding she had a small bowel obstruction which caused a cardiac arrest.
“My mom tried her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters after Ben died, but we knew how much pain she was in,” Riley, 35, told People magazine. “My mom physically died from the after-effects of her surgery, but we all knew she died of a broken heart.”
In 2022, a year before she died, Lisa Marie wrote about the death of Benjamin in an essay for National Grief Awareness Day.
“Since I have been living in the horrific reality of its unrelenting grips since my son’s death two years ago, I thought I would share a few things to be aware of in regard to grief for anyone who is interested,” she wrote, before adding that it’s important to understand that people don’t “get over” or “move on” from losing someone they loved.
Lisa Marie is survived by Riley, and her 15-year-old twins, Finley and Harper who she shared with ex-husband Michael Lockwood.
