Clip for the rapper’s tribute to his daughter Hailie Jade Mathers is filled with old and new home movies
Eminem has dropped a new music video for his song “Temporary” that’s filled with old home movies, and also a few new ones, including a clip where the rapper learns he’s going to be a grandfather.
“Temporary,” which features Skylar Grey, is Em’s heartfelt tribute to his daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers. The clip largely consists of old footage of father and daughter from the late Nineties and early 2000s, just as Eminem’s star was ascending. It’s interspersed with some more recent clips, including footage from Hailie’s wedding, as well as an incredibly endearing moment when she gifts her father a Detroit Lions jersey with “Grandpa” written on the back.
“Temporary” appears on Eminem’s most recent album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), which was released back in July. Last month, he dropped an expanded version of the album featuring a new skit and three additional tracks, including a new version of the song “Fuel” and the track, “Kyrie and Luka,” with 2 Chainz.
Eminem started rolling out The Death of Slim Shady earlier this year, launching a campaign centered around — as the album’s title suggests — the death of his Slim Shady alter ego. For instance, he published a faux obituary for Slim in the Detroit Free Press, mourning the character’s “tortured existence.” And he also took a chainsaw to his alter ego at the end of the music video for “Tobey” (which also featured fellow Detroit rappers Big Sean and BabyTron).
Eminem has also shared music videos for The Death of Slim Shady’s lead single, “Houdini,” as well as “Somebody Save Me,” his collaboration with Jelly Roll. Em performed both songs at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards as well.
