Mariah Carey has spoken candidly about missing out on being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Believe hitmaker received her first nomination for the prestigious institution this year but was not selected as an inductee, with the class of 2024 including Cher, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, and Ozzy Osbourne, among others.
Asked about the snub during a recent interview for The Los Angeles Times, Mariah indicated she was a little disappointed.
“My thoughts are: I didn’t get in,” she sighed. “Everybody was calling me going, ‘I think you’re getting in!’ and so I was excited about it. But then it didn’t happen.”
Mariah went on to joke that even her lawyer, Allen Grubman, was prioritised for the accolade over her.
“My lawyer got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before me,” the superstar continued, referring to Allen receiving the Ahmet Ertegun Award in 2022 for his work in the entertainment industry.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Mariah admitted she would like to win more Grammy Awards.
Despite earning a whopping 34 competitive nominations over the course of her career, she has had only five wins.
“They gave me two Grammys when I first started out. Then one year – huge year for me, career-wise – I had like six nominations with the Daydream album and One Sweet Day and Always Be My Baby and Fantasy. All those songs in a row ended up being so big that you just thought, ‘OK, at least One Sweet Day is gonna win Best Duet or something,'” the 55-year-old recalled. “Then I sat there the whole time and I didn’t get anything. I was like, ‘This is not fun. But what can I do? Be a sore loser and say, “F the Grammys?’ Whatever. If they give me more Grammys, I’ll like them more.”
In addition to her five Grammys, Mariah was honoured with the special Grammy Global Impact Award at the ceremony staged last February.
