Jennifer Hudson and Common bonded over their shared Chicago roots.
The Dreamgirls star has revealed that she and her rapper/actor boyfriend first connected over their hometown of Chicago.
“I think that’s how we connected initially,” Jennifer told the New York Post. “Because we were shooting the movie Breathe, and one day he was leaving the set and I came into set, and the security was like, ‘You and Common are so personable and very nice to everybody. What is that?’ That’s what caught our attention.”
The couple first sparked romance rumours in 2022 while working on their 2024 film, Breathe. They confirmed their relationship in January when Common appeared as a guest on Jennifer’s talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, and brought her flowers.
“We have a similar energy about ourselves that kind of connected us,” Jennifer, 43, continued of her relationship. “We’re similar types of people in a lot of ways. And I attribute that to being from Chicago. It feels familiar. It feels like home.”
The EGOT winner added that her romance with Common, real name Lonnie Lynn, “hit different”.
“It is very beautiful – it really is,” she shared. “It hit different. There’s nothing like it, that’s for sure.”
Earlier this year, the Silo actor, 52, teased that he was ready to get married, telling The Breakfast Club radio show in July, “If I’m going to get married, it’s to her.”
