EGOT-winning piano man will play shows in Kigali and Lagos in February
John Legend is the 2025 headliner of this February’s Move Afrika tour. This Global Citizen initiative is the first pan-African touring circuit headlined by international artists.
The 2025 Move Afrika tour will be hosted in Nigeria and Rwanda. Move Afrika: Kigali will occur at BK Arena on Feb. 21, while Move Afrika: Lagos will take place at the Palms on Feb. 25.
Created by Global Citizen and Kendrick Lamar’s entertainment company pgLang, the tour is part an effort to bring more economic opportunities to the continent’s younger generations through live music. Lamar himself headlined a show in Kigali back in 2023.
“I’m honored and excited to perform in Kigali and Lagos as part of the Move Afrika tour — an initiative that not only brings unforgettable shows, but also creates entrepreneurship and job opportunities, empowering young people to engage with Africa’s growing music and creative industries,” said John Legend in a statement. “Africa has always been a global cultural powerhouse, and it’s an honor to be part of the future of live music on the continent.”
Hugh Evans, Global Citizen’s Co-Founder and CEO said that as “Move Afrika grows year over year, our goal is to equip and inspire Africa’s dynamic, young population to participate in the live music and creative industries, while investing in its future with lasting infrastructure that will mean the continent no longer needs to be excluded from the international touring circuit.”
Legend will wrap an eventful 2024 after performing a Prince tribute alongside Sheila E. at the Democratic National Convention and in Philadelphia in support of Vice President Kamala Harris during her run for the White House against President-elect Donald Trump. In August, he released his first children’s album, My Favorite Dream, enlisting Sufjan Stevens to produce the project and featuring appearances by Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen and their two children Luna and Miles.
Last month, the singer celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut album Get Lifted with a special reissue that added 11 songs to the original track list, including a remix of “Let’s Get Lifted Again” that features Lil Wayne and Killer Mike.
