The Bedford-born singer-songwriter reached Number 4 last week with his Amazon Music Original track It Can’t Be Christmas, but is narrowly out in-front after this week’s first 48 hours of sales. Edging ahead of last week’s #XmasNo1, WHAM!’s Last Christmas, by less than 500 chart units, Tom’s lead is partly down to the release of a vinyl single of his holiday track on December 20th.
This week’s Number 1 will be crowned on December 27. While Tom can’t be Number 1 on Christmas Day, the tracking week features the big day itself, meaning streaming of festive favourites will be at its height. Can It Can’t Be Christmas continue its momentum, or will a Christmas classic take the throne?
Yuletide staples make up much of the midweek Top 5; WHAM!’s Last Christmas (2), Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You (3), and Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree (5). Sandwiched between them is 2024’s other big festive Amazon Original – Christmas Magic by Laufey, up 15 positions following her performance on The Graham Norton Show (4).
Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath The Tree reached the Official Singles Chart Top 10 for the first time two weeks ago, ascending to Number 10. The modern Christmas standout sets its sights on another new high this week, up three to Number 8. Prior to a fortnight ago, the last time Kelly was in the UK Top 10 was March 2015 with Heartbeat Song, which peaked at Number 7.
Political protest track Freezing This Christmas by Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers rises 24 places to Number 13 as the most-downloaded track of the week so far.
Finally, José Feliciano’s Feliz Navidad could enter the Top 20 for the first time ever, scaling two places to 19.
