BRIT-nominated singer and Celebrity Traitors finalist Cat Burns has heralded the start of a “new life” after undergoing breast reduction surgery. In a story reported by the BBC, the 25-year-old shared her journey with fans, expressing an “overwhelming” sense of happiness after years of physical and emotional struggle.

The “Go” singer, who recently reached the final of the hit BBC reality show alongside winner Alan Carr, revealed on Instagram that she had dealt with discomfort since the age of 12. Burns explained that her physical frame caused chronic pain during exercise and led to an “oversexualisation” that she deeply resented. “I tried so many different ways to work with my body,” she noted, but ultimately decided to proceed with surgery while “young and healthy” to ensure she could fully embrace her future.

The BBC highlights that Burns is part of a growing number of high-profile women speaking candidly about the medical necessity of the procedure. England rugby player Rosie Galligan and actresses Drew Barrymore and Ariel Winter have previously voiced similar sentiments, citing the relief from back pain and the liberation from being “treated like objects.” Winter famously noted that before her surgery, her identity in the media was often reduced to her physical attributes rather than her acting talent.

According to the NHS, breast reduction is a vital option for those suffering from shoulder grooves, skin irritation, and significant psychological distress. However, experts told BBC Scotland that the path to surgery remains difficult for many due to a post-pandemic backlog, with the NHS currently prioritizing only the most extreme cases.

For Burns, whose second album How To Be Human recently charted at number five, the successful operation is a personal milestone. Reflecting on the emotional moment she saw her family post-surgery, she confirmed she is recovering well. For the London-born star, this isn’t just a medical update—it is the beginning of a chapter defined by self-love and physical freedom.
