AC/DC stars explain ‘biggest fear’ about performing in their 70s

AC/DC stars Brian Johnson and Angus Young are both terrified of falling over onstage.

The rockers have opened up about their biggest fears about performing now they are both in their 70s with guitarist Angus, 71, admitting he is constantly worried about taking a tumble and sustaining a nasty injury.

During a joint interview with USA Today, Angus said: “I just worry about if I’m going to trip over … That’s about it.”

Brian, 78, added: “Yeah, just stupid s*** like that … On the stage, you can’t just immediately do things. You have to learn to watch the other person and …

“But we’re doing things now we didn’t think of doing before – interacting. It’s just more fun because we don’t care anymore.

“When you’re younger, you take yourself very seriously. You know, you think, ‘I’m in a big rock and roll band.’ I never used to smile or anything. ‘Cause that’s what what you thought you were supposed to [do].”

Brian added of staying sharp while on stage: “I think it’s still the unknown. You’re all rehearsed, you know all your parts and your bits and pieces. But [the unpredictability] still keeps you on edge, you know, to be your best.”

During the interview, Brian also opened up about his battle with hearing loss as he now has to use a new piece of equipment called an ADEL (Ambrose Diaphonic Ear Lens) attached to his in-ear monitors so he can sing with the group.

The rocker admitted he didn’t damage his hearing through years of performing loud shows – revealing it was actually a bout of flu contracted during the band’s 2016 tour which left him struggling.

Brian explained: “We were in Winnipeg or somewhere like that and it was cold and wet and you’re sweating. But it’s freezing and you have to quick, hurry up, get on the plane and we took off and my ears got so crystallized and the rest was just nasty.

“But anyway, I’m a happy ending.”

The band kicked off the North American leg of their Power Up Tour on July 11 and they are set to play throughout the summer before bringing the trek to an end on September 29 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
