“I just need a rest. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself and I want to live it now,” singer says at final Munich show Saturday
Adele concluded her Munich residency Saturday with a 10th show in the German city, during which she reiterated her plan to take a long break from music following the conclusion of her Weekends With Adele shows in Las Vegas this fall.
“I just need a rest. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself and I want to live it now,” an emotional Adele told the crowd. “I want to live my life that I’ve been building and I will miss you terribly.”
The singer added that she intended for the Munich residency to be the last shows of the 30 era, but those plans changed when she rescheduled her postponed Las Vegas dates for the fall.
“But after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time,” Adele said. “And I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break.”
In a radio interview in July, Adele first revealed that she would step away from music to focus on family and other “creative things” after her residencies ended; Adele’s Las Vegas residency launched at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November 2022, with that run spanning 100 shows by the time it ends this November.
“I don’t have any plans for new music, at all,” Adele said last month. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”
Earlier this year, Adele acknowledged the limitations her fans face when their only option to see her live is to catch a flight to Vegas or Munich. “I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time, but next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live,” she told one audience in January.
