AI-generated music now surpasses 50 per cent of daily uploads on Deezer

Deezer has revealed that AI-generated music now surpasses 50 per cent of daily uploads on the platform.

The streaming service noted the increase in music made using artificial intelligence last September, when it revealed that 28 per cent of music uploaded at that point was fully AI-generated.

In April this year, it confirmed that that figure had jumped up to the equivalent of 44 per cent – with roughly 75,000 AI tracks uploaded every day. Despite the high number, however, the platform said that the AI content accounted for less than three per cent of listening time.

Now, as of July 2026, the figure has again spiked and reached around 90,000 AI-generated tracks being submitted on a daily basis, which is over half of all of the complete total of uploads.

As reported by Music Business Worldwide, this marks the first time that human-made music has been outnumbered by AI alternatives on Deezer.

Around the time that the first stats were shared in 2025, a warning emerged that people working in music were likely to lose a quarter of their income to Artificial Intelligence over the next four years.

Deezer then tried to combat the rise in music made entirely by artificial intelligence by launching a tool to detect AI-generated music on playlists from 20 different streaming platforms.

As per DJ Mag, following the latest figures, Deezer is continuing to remove and demonetise AI music on the platform. “Deezer has been at the frontline of fighting fraud and reducing payment dilution related to AI music for almost two years”, said CEO Alexis Lanternier.

“Now that half of all daily uploads are AI-generated tracks, we are taking additional steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, while maintaining focus on music that fans actually love.”

Deezer isn’t the only streaming platform to crack down on AI-generated music. Last month, TIDAL confirmed that it will not be paying royalties to any music made entirely by artificial intelligence.

Other changes on Tidal include clearly labelling artificially generated music, providing users with the option to filter all 100 per cent AI-generated content out, and removing any music that “exploits an individual’s or group’s music, name or likeness, deceives listeners, or diminishes the quality of our service”.

Beyond that, Spotify confirmed that it was removing 75million “spammy tracks” and targeting impersonators – especially given findings that AI-generated songs were being uploaded to dead musicians’ Spotify profiles without permission – and Apple Music has said that it will now let users know if they are listening to music that was made using AI.

Last month, various music industry bodies from around the world penned an open letter that calls for artists and songwriters to offer consent before going into any AI deals, and before then, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Dua Lipa and Elton John led a campaign urging the government to protect artists’ work.

The latter followed the government putting forward controversial plans to change copyright rules and let AI firms “steal” copyrighted works without paying or seeking consent from music creators, writers and artists.

Over the spring, the government then announced it would ditch “deeply damaging” plans to allow AI firms to use copyrighted works without permission.

The push for change comes as a study conducted last year revealed that 97 per cent of people “can’t tell the difference” between real and AI music.

While Spotify is cracking down on tracks being uploaded that are entirely made using artificial intelligence, in May the platform – along with Universal Music Group (UMG) – did sign a new licensing deal that will allow fans to reimagine songs with the technology.

Announced at Spotify’s Investor Day presentation, the “landmark” agreement is set to introduce a new paid add-on tool for Spotify Premium users, which allows them to generate AI covers and remixes of licensed UMG tracks from participating artists.
