All of the Easter Eggs in Taylor Swift’s Emmys Skit

Taylor Swift sent Swifties into overdrive when she made a surprise cameo at the 78th Emmy Awards. The superstar — and her Scottish fold cat named Olivia Benson — appeared alongside Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, in a pre-recorded sketch that riffed on Hargitay’s hosting duties.

The bit also poked fun at the way Swifties turn even the tiniest details into clues for Swift’s next move, with not just one, but two crime boards. In doing so, the sketch also delivered a bevy of Easter eggs, which Emmy producers Jesse Collins and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay confirmed are, in fact, real. While Swift herself was chatting with Tom Cruise at Travis Kelce’s first Kansas City Chiefs home game of the season, Swifties went into full-on investigation mode, decoding every minor detail from the four-minute video. So come down this rabbit hole with us as we break down all of the clues we could find below, including what the hell Swift meant when she broke the fourth wall to deliver the ever-so-cryptic words “saccharide, Aries, from the vineyard, north or south.”

It’s All TV

“The answer has been TV this whole time,” Hargitay exclaims towards the end of the sketch. That’s not the only mention of TV. Before she even says this, a sticky note on the crime board filled with references to television shows behind them reads, “Is it TV?” Of course, the sketch was made for the Emmys, the television industry’s biggest awards show — but the emphasis on “TV” could also potentially have a double meaning of “Taylor’s Version,” which is how Swift denotes her re-recording projects. There are two re-recordings that she still has yet to release, her self-titled 2006 debut and her 2017 album Reptuation. Fans have been speculating about both for years. While the superstar initially said she thought Reputation “couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it,” she recently seemed to change her tune. “I rerecorded all of my music that I had recorded on a former label,” Swift said during her appearance at the Grammys Icon Sessions in August.

Editor’s picks

Saccharide, Aries, From the Vineyard, North or South

The most notable part of the sketch comes when Swift looks directly at the camera and rattles off the words “saccharide, Aries, from the vineyard, north or south” in quick succession just moments after saying, “I think what we are looking for is hiding in plain sight.” What the hell could that mean? Well, there’s a running number of theories with only some consensus.

Some fans noted that saccharide is a kind of sugar, which is apparently the title of an unreleased song Swift recorded back during her early career, and she could be referring to it as a vault track. The sugar reference could also be pointing to another unreleased song from Swift’s debut era, “Sweet Tea and God’s Graces.” Speaking of the vault, most fans agree that “from the vineyard” is a reference to “from the vault,” the wording that the singer has used for the previously unreleased tracks that appeared on her re-recorded albums. Meanwhile, Aries horoscope season runs from March to April — but it’s also the first sign of the 12-month zodiac calendar. It’s not Swift’s first reference to Aries, either. She referenced the sign in the music video for “Karma” back in 2023. What does that have to do with the Taylor Swift Cinematic Universe? Well, it could be an Easter Egg for a potential release date or refer to the first of Swift’s 12 albums. As for “north and south,” fans believe this is reference to “polar opposite” directions and a possible nod to both Taylor Swift and Reputation, which are polar opposites in that they are the first and last of the six albums that were part of the masters situation (as well as in their very different themes and sounds).

FTV= FROM THE VAULT
NORTH = REPUTATION
SOUTH = DEBUT

‘Taylor Swift’ References

The crime boards were filled with multiple references to tracks from Swift’s self-titled debut, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. There was a drawing of guitar with a doodle of someone crying above it, referencing her country pop hit “Teardrops on My Guitar.” Meanwhile, a friendship bracelet read “Picture to Burn.” Fans also pointed out that a news clip with the headline “After 40 Years Apart, Two Childhood Friends Finally Reunite,” which could be a sidelong reference to revisiting Taylor Swift 20 years after its release.

‘Reputation’ References

In the sketch, Hargitay directly points to the Reputation album cover on the crime board after referring to “Look What You Made Me Do.” She also mentions “Getaway Car.” The final song that is referenced is “Delicate,” which is written on yet another sticky note. One sticky note also reads, “Season 6,” which could be a double meaning for Reputation, which is the singer’s sixth album. These all seem like pretty clear nods to that album.

Dates

As Swift once sang, “It’s all in the timing.” Throughout the sketch, there are multiple numbers, which fans are hoping lead to an announcement or release date. A clock in the SVU station reads 10:13 as the time, which could also be interpreted as Oct. 13 — Swift’s lucky number is 13, after all. This year, that date falls on a Tuesday rather than typical release day, Friday, so maybe it’s when something will be announced. That theory is strengthened by the fact that a worksheet on the crime board boldly reads “Tuesday 8am,” which sounds like the perfect time of day to share big news.

Trending Stories

Other numbers include a fax number, which reads, “200142.” Some fans peered into that numerology and took it as a nod to Oct. 24, the 20th anniversary of her debut album’s release. (There’s a running theory that also supports this date). A separate newspaper clipping also has the headline, “A Simple Birthday Surprise Becomes a Moment This Family Will Never Forget,” which could mean that something is coming on Dec. 13, Swift’s birthday.

Miscellaneous Eggs

While most of the Easter Eggs in the sketch point to two long-awaited re-recordings, there were a handful of references to Swift’s overall career as well. Her 2012 LP Red was referenced twice, as was her pivotal 2014 album 1989. Around the board, multiple guitar picks that relate to each of the star’s eras are scattered around, and an evidence bag holds purple glitter in direct reference to the 2022 “Anti-Hero” music video. What could those mean? Well, as with all the rest of it, we’re not entirely sure.
