Amanda Bynes to make “EDM and rap” inspired comeback to music

Amanda Bynes is set to make her music comeback with the track ‘Girlfriend’, her first new music in three years.

The single, release Friday (April 10), will be her first since 2022’s ‘Diamonds’. Speaking about the new music to E!, Bynes said: “My inspiration was a lot of EDM, as well as rap.”

Her label, Create Music Group, revealed in a statement: “’Girlfriend’ blends melodic rap with EDM-inspired production, creating a catchy, high-replay record with a smooth West Coast bounce.”

“Built around a strong hook and confident, flirt-heavy energy, it’s designed for repeat listens and wide playlist appeal. Featuring Fenix Flexin, it taps into a familiar L.A. sound while staying fresh and accessible.”

Bynes rose to stardom in the 1990s as the star of family shows on Nickelodeon such as All That and The Amanda Show. She pivoted to film acting in the 2000s, starring in the comedies What A Girl Wants, She’s The Man, and Hairspray. Her last acting credit was 2010 high school comedy Easy A.

Her career declined in the 2010s due to mental health issues and substance abuse, that saw her placed into a conservatorship in 2013. She successfully terminated the conservatorship in 2022, saying at the time: “In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritise my well-being in this next chapter.”

Bynes’ situation mirror that of Britney Spears, whose own conservatorship ran from 2008 to 2021. The pop star was arrested on March 4 for suspected “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol” in California, per TMZ. She recently commented on the incident, posting on Instagram: “Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing. Stay kind !!!”
