Ariana Grande has warned fans the songs on her new album are “very experimental”.
The music superstar is set to drop her eighth studio album, Petal, on Friday, with the project featuring the lead single Hate That I Made You Love Me.
In a teaser for an upcoming interview for Apple Music published on Wednesday, Ariana recalled how she harnessed an “unfiltered rage” while writing the lyrics.
“I’m equally excited to see how they react to every single song. I don’t know. I’m just very excited,” she smiled. “I think they’ll feel familiarity and comfort in it because it just feels like it pulls from many different parts of myself, and yet, at the same time, it is very experimental and different for me. I wrote from a place that I don’t usually, I feel like, which was like an unfiltered rage that I think we all feel sometimes. I usually am too shy to tap into that.”
Comprised of 12 tracks, Petal also includes songs titled Kiss Me, Freak, and Nowhere, Nobody.
In addition, the Break Free hitmaker described how she opted for a different approach in the recording studio this time around.
“I think this time, I kind of just didn’t filter as much as I usually do. I usually do a lot of rewrites and make things a little kinder, a little less… whatever… direct. But this time, I didn’t. And I think they’ll be excited by that. Also, yeah, I just hope they love it,” the 33-year-old shared.
In her original album announcement, Ariana labelled Petal as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging”.
