Bad Bunny Takes the No. 1 Spot on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums of the 21st Century Chart

Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG rules as the No. 1 Latin album on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums of the 21st Century chart. The retrospective is based on performance on the Top Latin Albums chart from the start of 2000 through the end of 2024.

The collection, released via Rimas Entertainment, is the longest-running No. 1 in the survey’s 32-year history, with 70 weeks at the summit in 2021-22.

“Thank you all who believed and who continue to believe in me,” Bad Bunny told Billboard in 2020 upon the album’s chart arrival. Echoing the meaning of its title, he said, “I do what I want, and it’s based on feelings. I don’t think about it. I do it for you and for the faith you have in me.”

At the time, Benito’s groundbreaking album become the all-genre Billboard 200’s highest charting all-Spanish-language album and scored the biggest streaming week ever for a Latin album and the largest week for a Latin title since Billboard began tracking albums by equivalent album units in December 2014.

Reflecting the biggest albums in Latin from Y2K to today, check out the top 10 titles on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums of the 21st Century chart below and the entire 100-position ranking in Billboard’s Greatest of All Time charts menu.

Following the Tuesday (Oct. 7) reveal of Billboard’s Top Latin Artists of the 21st Century chart, check back Thursday (Oct. 9) for Billboard’s Top Hot Latin Songs of the 21st Century chart and Friday (Oct. 10) for Billboard’s rundown of The Top Producers of the 21st Century on the Hot Latin Songs Chart, with all coverage of Billboard’s 21st Century Charts here.

Billboard’s Top Latin Artists, Top Latin Albums and Top Hot Latin Songs of the 21st Century recaps reflect performance on weekly charts dated Jan. 1, 2000, through Dec. 28, 2024. The Top Latin Artists category ranks the best-performing acts in that span based on activity on Top Latin Albums and Hot Latin Songs. (Titles released prior to mid-1999 are excluded, although such entries that appeared on Top Latin Albums or Hot Latin Songs in that span contribute to the calculation of the Top Latin Artists chart.) The Top Producers of the 21st Century on the Hot Latin Songs Chart reflects producers with the most No. 1s on weekly Hot Latin Songs charts dated Jan. 1, 2000, through Dec. 28, 2024, with ties broken by most top 10s and most overall chart entries.

El Último Tour del Mundo made history as the first all-Spanish-language release to claim the No. 1 spot on the overall Billboard 200 since its inception in 1956. The concept album that sees Benito experimenting with alternative sounds arrived as a surprise drop on Nov. 26, 2020, at 11 p.m. ET (marking the end of Thanksgiving Day in the United States). The set houses the enduring “Dakiti,” with Jhayco, a 27-week No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs.

    No. 1 (24 weeks), beginning July 31, 2004

Daddy Yankee claimed his first No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart with his third studio set, Barrio Fino, a project that broke boundaries by planting reggaetón roots in spaces where only salsa once thrived. (Back then, salsa was the “it” sub-genre, and DY, as he’s now known, changed that.) The album remains his longest leading: 27 weeks. It includes his breakthrough hit, the enduring “Gasolina.”

    No. 1 (4 weeks), beginning Sept. 20, 2003

It was far from “normal” for Colombian Juanes to secure a No. 1 spot on the Top Latin Albums chart, especially after his 2001 debut studio album peaked at a modest No. 36, but Un Día Normal was a true turning point. The set marked his first chart-topper and opened the doors to a stellar career, leading to seven more top 10 albums, including four additional No. 1s. The set delivered six Hot Latin Songs hits, starting with his maiden top 10, “A Dios Le Pido.” Juan Esteban followed with his first of eight No. 1s, “Fotografía,” with Nelly Furtado.

Aventura broke the rules and loved & hated, perhaps all part of God’s project, to borrow the titles of the band’s first three albums of the 21st century. The American-Dominicans established themselves as a chart force and proved lasting appeal, as greatest hits souvenir Todavía Me Amas: Lo Mejor de Aventura rose to a No. 4 high on Top Latin Albums and ran up a hefty 391 weeks on the chart over 2016-24. The set includes the Hot Latin Songs No. 1s “Por Un Segundo” and “Dile al Amor.”

The musical odyssey ruled the Top Latin Albums chart for 46 weeks, and started him on a string of five straight No. 1s. Following the Puerto Rican’s stint on Romeo Santos’ “Sobredosis,” the bachata singer returned the favor on the album’s third single, “El Farsante,” which was celebrated for Ozuna’s distinctive voice and its seamless mix of reggaetón with romantic undertones.
