Benny Blanco has recalled how he tried to set Selena Gomez up with a friend before they started dating.
Last December, the record producer and Lose You to Love Me singer announced they were engaged after dating for just over a year.
But during a joint interview for the latest episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Benny recounted how he offered to set Selena up with one of his pals after they struck up a conversation in a recording studio.
“I thought she hated me,” he sighed. “Obviously, 99 per cent of it was in my head. I was talking to her and said, ‘Oh my God, I have so many good single guy friends… We have dinners at the house all the time, you should come over sometime.’ I wasn’t even thinking about anything and we’re talking about our ideal date and this and that.”
Benny went on to describe how he was determined to ask Selena for her phone number.
“I want her to be in our friend group and I want to make sure this thing is smoothed out so the song goes well,” the 37-year-old remembered thinking at the time.
In response, Selena reflected on how she began to fall for Benny via their text exchanges and when she started to send him “ugly” selfies.
“When I fell for Benny, everything about him was honest. When Benny looks at me, I don’t think he sees anything but who I am, that’s so cheesy to say, but when you do know, it feels right,” the 32-year-old smiled.
As for nearly sabotaging their future relationship, the music producer admitted, “I feel like it all happens for a reason. I feel like maybe me doing that is what disarmed her enough.”
Selena and Benny are currently promoting their new collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, which dropped last week.
