Benson Boone ‘Can’t Believe’ the Grammys Snubbed the ‘Lyrical Genius’ of ‘Moonbeam Ice Cream’

The pop singer’s single “Mystical Magic,” along with the rest of his album American Heart, were not nominated for the 2026 Grammys, but he isn’t taking it too hard

Earlier this year, Benson Boone landed the backflip when he performed his breakout single “Beautiful Things” for his Grammy Awards debut as a Best New Artist nominee. What he didn’t do, however, was land any nominations for his latest album American Heart when contenders were announced for the 2026 Grammy Awards. The pop singer addressed the snub in an Instagram Story, writing, “Can’t believe moonbeam ice cream didn’t get a Grammy nom, it’s literally pure lyrical genius.”

Boone doesn’t seem to be taking it too hard. The Recording Academy just didn’t have much of a sweet tooth this year — and no one is really too sure what the moonbeam ice cream he mentions on the single “Mystical Magic” even is.

He could have made a case that their decision to nominate Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2021 Grammys should have guaranteed him a nomination, too. Surely “Moonbeam ice cream, taking off your blue jeans/Dancing at the movies, ’cause it feels so mystical, magical” is on parallel ground to “Yeah, you got that yummy-yum/That yummy-yum, that yummy-yummy.”

Bieber is back in the category this year with “Daisies” from his album Swag. Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, and Lola Young are also up for Best Pop Solo Performance. Meanwhile, the pop album category is occupied by Bieber, Carpenter, Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Teddy Swims.

Boone isn’t bothered. Earlier this year, he spoke with Rolling Stone about how he has been adjusting to fame following the success of “Beautiful Things.” Pride was one of the main points he acknowledged as a vice. “I think this year has taught me a lot of things, especially that it is incredibly easy to get carried away with my ego,” he said. “After ‘Beautiful Things,’ I was like, ‘Dude, I can do anything.’ And I can’t. It’s good to talk about, ‘Hey, you know, I’m not the king of the world. I’m not somebody that everybody in the world knows. I’m still an up-and-coming artist.’ ”
