Big Thief’s Buck Meek announces new album ‘The Mirror’ with introspective new single ‘Gasoline’

Big Thief’s Buck Meek has announced details of a new album called ‘The Mirror’. Check out the details below, along with the lead single ‘Gasoline’.

The LP is a new solo endeavour from the artist, and set for release on February 27. Visit here to pre-order.

With the record, Meek searches for new meaning in the mundane, and his singular voice helps capture an uncanny curiosity towards the world around him.

The concept arose as he joined forces again with producer and bandmate James Krivchenia, and sought to capture the same live, kinetic energy as seen in their work with Big Thief. It was recorded in a log cabin studio in Los Angeles, and Meek recorded vocals outdoors on the front porch, looking through the living room window where the band played inside.

Today (January 8), the first preview of the album arrives in the form of lead single ‘Gasoline’.

In the song, Meek continues to showcase the themes that run throughout the album as a whole – holding up a mirror to the absurdity of devotion and the choice to love.

“Making words up while we made love/ One month and she’s in my blood/ Ooheeah lalo, faroosee mneykro/ Will it be me or will it be her/ To say I love you first?” he sings, backed by a fast-paced yet slightly melancholic acoustic guitar melody.

The track also comes with a new music video by director Noel Paul, and features appearances from Ken Woodward, Adam Brisbin, and Jesse Quebbeman-Turley, who also play on the track.

Other artists who join Meek throughout the tracklisting include composer and ambient musician Alex Somers, as well as drummers Jonathan Wilson, and Kyle Crane, and longtime collaborator, vocalist Adrianne Lenker.

Adrian Olsen also created a wide range of sounds and melodies with modular synths, and Meek’s brother, Dylan, contributed piano, keys, and vocals.

James Krivchenia’s contributions to the record come following his work with Big Thief on ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You’ in 2022, and sharing his own solo album ‘Performing Belief’ last year.

Later this year, Meek will hit the road with Big Thief again for the first time since summer 2023. Following shows in North America, East Asia and Australia, the band will be bringing their live show to the UK and Europe soon, including a stop at EartH in London on March 20.

Visit here for a list of live shows. You’ll be able to buy tickets here (UK/Ireland) and here (Europe).

At the end of 2025, the band’s latest album ‘Double Infinity’ was placed as Number 26 on NME’s list of Best Albums of the Year.

“Big Thief have earned the right to do whatever they want, which on ‘Double Infinity’ meant assembling 13 musicians, all playing live,” the entry read. “In true Big Thief fashion, the results sound mystical, joyful and intuitive. Whether they start a song with a giggling fit or end it by abandoning language, the playfulness is palpable, even on their most moving material yet.”
