Blossoms brand their own track Giving Up The Ghost a stinker

Blossoms brand their own track Giving Up The Ghost a stinker

Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden and drummer Joe Donovan have hilariously trashed one of their own past tracks, naming the song Giving Up The Ghost as the single song from their extensive catalogue that can get in the bin. The Manchester indie icons made the blunt revelation during an appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, where they looked back honestly at their past record releases.

While host Chris Moyles was listing off the impressive multi-million streaming figures for some of the group’s biggest hits, including Your Girlfriend and Honey Sweet, Donovan lightheartedly commented on the massive numbers. This prompted Ogden to interject with a surprisingly candid admission about their songwriting history, confessing that there are definitely some stinkers over the years in their musical archive.

When a shocked Moyles questioned whether the band had actually released any sub-par tracks, Ogden clarified that the subpar material is hidden away as deeper cuts on their studio albums. He specifically singled out their 2018 sophomore record, Cool Like You, as containing a few weaker moments. Encouraged by Donovan to name names, Ogden did not hold back, declaring that track nine, Giving Up The Ghost, can get in the bin.

The singer joked that the station’s radio listeners probably wouldn’t even recognize the song because of its obscure status. Donovan immediately jumped on the opportunity to tease his bandmate, begging the radio production team to broadcast the track specifically because of how much Ogden loathes it. Refusing to back down on his harsh critique of the song, Ogden explained just how far they have gone to mock the track in their other media ventures, revealing they actually turned the song into a jingle on their podcast because of his strong feelings.

Listen to The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X weekdays from 06:30 – 10:00 and on Saturday from 08:00 – 11:00 across the UK and on YouTube.
