Boy George broke down in tears as he could sense the “panic in the air” near the scene of the stabbing in Golders Green, London on Wednesday.
Two Jewish men, one in his 70s and another in his 30s, were stabbed in the street in broad daylight on Wednesday morning in the Golders Green neighbourhood of north-west London.
The Culture Club frontman took to X on Thursday and revealed he was in the area at the time and could feel the “panic in the air”.
“I was in Golders Green yesterday. I arrived just as the police presence was building,” he wrote alongside a video clip showing a road cordoned off with police tape and an ambulance and police cars at the scene. “Even before I knew what had happened I was in tears because you could feel panic in the air.”
He continued, “My heart goes out to the two Jewish victims and to their loved ones. We need to make our Jewish community know we support them.
“These are just regular people getting with their lives. London has always been a great multicultural city. Our Jewish community brings us so much. They are an integral part of the fabric of this city.”
The singer also posted a link to a song on Spotify – Amy Winehouse’s Love Is a Losing Game.
The two Jewish men – Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76 – were treated at the scene and remain in a stable condition in the hospital, according to BBC News. The suspect, a 45-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at the scene.
After the attack, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson issued a statement on behalf of King Charles III, saying he was “deeply concerned” about the incident.
“His thoughts and prayers are with the two individuals who were injured and offers his heartfelt gratitude to those who so selflessly rushed to their aid,” they added.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the stabbing as “utterly appalling” and declared, “Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.”
