Boy George says he used AI to create his controversial new pro-Israel reggae song ‘We Will Dance Again’

Boy George has admitted he used AI to help write his new pro-Israel reggae song ‘We Will Dance Again’.

The Culture Club frontman posted the song on social media over the weekend, accompanied by the Hebrew title ‘עוד נרקוד’ and the caption: “Shalom.”

Its opening line, “You say genocide, I say war”, rejects the description of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza as genocide, presenting it as a response to the Hamas-led attack on the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, where 344 civilians and 34 security personnel were killed and 44 people were taken hostage.

Boy George also uses the song to criticise musicians who have publicly shown support for Palestine. “You condemn the Jews, with selective memory / Musicians holding flags, mouthing like sheep / Propaganda fuelled by the Internet feels so weak,” he sings.

The phrase ‘We Will Dance Again’ has been used as an expression of resilience by Israelis following October 7, and was also used for a 2024 documentary that explored the Nova festival attack.

A United Nations Commission concluded last year that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and said last month that genocidal acts were continuing through attacks targeting children. Amnesty International also concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Israel has repeatedly denied committing genocide or war crimes, maintaining that its military campaign is an act of self-defence following October 7. It also rejected the UN findings as “distorted and false” and a “libellous sham”.

Talking about the track on his Threads page, George wrote: “I prefer an imperfect democracy. It’s what I’m used to but my support is more for my actual friends who I hold close and know are good and decent. I’m afraid we all struggle to live peacefully with each other. Until we do, we are doomed. I accept that many people disagree with my point of view but that is what is great about democracy.”

He added: “As imperfect as it is! The song was created using AI. I call it ‘AI for good’. Truthfully, I would struggle to write this with a human!”

The song comes after George said earlier this year that he used AI to pen new music and it changed his approach to songwriting.

His current track has attracted criticism from some quarters, with Martyn Ware, founder of The Human League and Heaven 17, calling the song an “overtly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda…” He added: “George, you should be ashamed.”

Journalist Mahdi Hemmat, also criticised the song, writing: “Neighborhoods have been flattened. Hospitals and ambulances have been hit. The civilian death toll keeps climbing. Calling it simply “war” ignores the scale of what’s happening.”

I honestly can’t believe that my old friend Boy George has made an overtly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda…

Boy George just released a song defending Israel’s genocide on Gaza.

He opens with the line “You said genocide, I say war” and sings about dancing again while the destruction continues.

Boy George has voiced support for Jewish communities on several occasions in recent years. In May, he shared a message of solidarity with Jewish people at an antisemitism march in London.

“I don’t want to be thanked for doing what is right,” he said at the time. “I have so many beautiful Jewish friends, and I know some of you will be there today. But even if I don’t know you, I send you my love.”

Those comments were made ahead of his appearance at Eurovision 2026, where he performed alongside Senhit as part of San Marino’s entry. The pair failed to qualify for the final.

In 2024, Boy George joined Sharon Osbourne, Gene Simmons and Scooter Braun in signing an open letter supporting Israel’s continued inclusion in Eurovision.
