Britney Spears’s manager claims arrest ‘long overdue’

Britney Spears’ arrest represented a “long overdue” reset, her manager has declared.

The Toxic singer’s “completely inexcusable” DUI was the wake-up call she needed, her manager told Page Six.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a representative for Spears, 44, told the outlet.

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”

Spears was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at 9.28 pm on Wednesday and booked into a local jail at 3.20 am, jail records showed, with TMZ the first to report she had been picked up for driving under the influence.

The pop star’s management expressed hope she would be appropriately supported in the wake of her arrest, adding Spears’ sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline, would be close by.

“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” the rep said.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

Spears was released from a court-ordered conservatorship in 2021, freeing her to make decisions regarding her estate, medical care, and personal life. The conservatorship was established in 2008 after she was hospitalised for a psychiatric evaluation.
