A Bronx drill rapper and alleged gang member has been indicted in connection with a midtown Manhattan shooting that left a New York Jets defensive player critically wounded, according to prosecutors.

Frederick Green, who performs under the name Tbo Zay, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday, Jan. 21, where he was formally arraigned on several charges, including one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Assistant District Attorney Sarah Csanadi told the court that surveillance footage placed Green, 20, at the scene of the crime “before, during and after” the Nov. 16 shooting, which allegedly erupted over jokes about designer clothing and perceived disrespect.

The shooting occurred around 2 A.M. outside the upscale Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street, where Jets cornerback Boyd was socializing with teammates Jamien Sherwood, Irvin Charles, and another friend.

Authorities alleged that Green was armed and fired his weapon twice during the confrontation. One of the bullets struck Boyd in the abdomen, traveled through his body, and ultimately punctured one of his lungs.

The 29-year-old defensive back was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. Although Boyd was later released, he was readmitted during the Thanksgiving holiday after suffering health complications related to the shooting and remains hospitalized.

Initial police reports noted that a blue BMW X6 with New York plates and a silver Mercedes-Benz GLS with Michigan plates fled the scene shortly after gunfire rang out. That detail has taken on added significance in light of Green’s music.

In the video for his song “Mission,” released on Aug. 21, 2025 — less than three months before the shooting—Tbo Zay boasts, “I go in the Beemer and I got accurate aim,” a lyric prosecutors could seek to introduce as evidence of intent or mindset. The same video also briefly shows an NYPD officer shining a flashlight toward Zay and his entourage, a moment that now appears eerily prophetic as the rapper faces the most serious legal battle of his life.

Editor’s picks

Earlier releases, including the 2024 videos for “Play Ball” and “Spin Again,” similarly depict Green emphasizing gang affiliations and touting gun violence.

Boyd, a Texas native, signed a $1.6 million one-year contract with the Jets in 2025 and was sidelined with a season-ending shoulder injury at the time of the incident. A former Texas Longhorn, he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft and later spent brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before landing in New York.

After his initial release from the hospital, Boyd addressed supporters on Instagram, writing, “I love and appreciate everyone and y’all dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you!” and adding, “Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!”

Green was arrested in Buffalo, New York, in December after allegedly fleeing the city. He is currently being held without bail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 15.
